Thanks, I'm glad to be here 8-)

I try to find some more infos about the car I'm on, from the Body number.
Can I found something somewhere ? I have PB at the begining (so PAS for the P I learned here ;) ) and DW (?) at the end, what does it means ?
Then, can the numbers give me the real month and year ? Colors ? Because the seller says 1966, but in BRG it could only be a 1967 MY an not a 66.
Yet I found nothing on the net for this period.
Thanks ! :D

There are a couple of things that the chassis number tells you. The first "P" means it is a factory fitted power steering car. The 1B means it is an S Type that's all. The numbers are just a sequential set of numbers from which you can tell roughly what year the car was built by comparing it against other known chassis numbers and the dates they were built. Depending on the number we can tell if it was a 3.4, 3.8 and if it was RHD or LHD. The ending is actually BW or DN and this tells you which gearbox the car had either BW for the Borge Warner automatic box or DN for the Moss manual gear box.
The BW does not even tell you if it is the DG250 or the BW35 gearbox like wise the DN does not state if the car has overdrive or not.
The engine number again is just a sequential build number starting with 7B which means it was an engine designated for the S Type.
The gearbox number has a prefix of either JBN for manual, JBC for Automatic and then later FG for the BW35 auto box. There were some others such as GBN or KFN butt manly the formers.

If you give us the numbers you have we can tell you what you should be looking at. We might even have some information about the car from a previous owner who has already registered the car on our register.

The only way you can tell what colour it was externally and internally is to get a Heritage certificate from Jaguar Heritage. https://www.jaguarheritage.com/archive- ... tificates/
This will also tell you the date it was built and where it was sent to be sold.

Nothing tells you whether the gearbox is Moss or Jaguar other than it's stamped number on the box & Plate on the firewall. The DN suffix ~ if my reading is correct tells you it has Overdrive fitted ~ DN = DeNormanville. (as in Laycock DeNormanville) As in P 1B xxxxx DN

Thanks !
The given number must then have issues, or ? because: PB55210DW
I will ask again, and also the Engine number.

The closest numbers to 55210 on the register are 1B55215BW which is a rhd 3.4 Automatic in Red with wire wheels and P1B5507BW a rhd 3.4 in Maroon but this does not mean anything in identifying your car other than 55215 is a 3.4 rhd car and was probably built in 1965.

Yes it worked :D
It's a LHD 3.8L Manual+OD with PAS, the seller will look again tomorow for the numbers, it should be something like P1B75---DN normally... I learn quick here with good teachers :D

Other question, here are some receptacles missing on the left side, somes are on the other side, but the Fuel filter(?)/Receptacle is missing, no ?
The battery has been moved to the trunk/boot (I guess to avoid the heat ?)

Normally the clutch and brake fluid reservoirs are on the same side as the carburettors in a RHD car. I am not sure about a LHD car but the small metal bar on the left is normally what the reservoirs hang on.
The previous owner might have put an in line fuel filter in place of the glass bowl filter possibly to remove the filter and possibility of leaking fuel in the engine bay.
LHD 3.8s numbers should be between 67000 and 80500. 1966 cars should be between 77000 and 87000 approximately.

This is the lay out of my engine bay of my 1968 RHD 3.4s automatic as it was stock. I have since altered a couple of things.
