Voltage Regulator Earth
My car came back from restoration without an earth lead to the voltage regulator. What havoc that wreaked with the 123 Ignition Distributor! I've since installed one but I'd like to know where the lead should be routed and where it terminates. Does anyone know/remember? It's the uppermost spade terminal on the regulator. Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Voltage Regulator Earth
Orlando I have been looking at my old photos which I have reproduced below. I have now removed my Voltage regulator having converted to the Dynalite alternator but from the photos and memory the earth came from the VR and went down to a self tapping screw which was just below the VR screwed in to the inner wing. You might still have the hole in the inner wing.
The self tapper can be seen in the second photo which has been taken with the VR removed. It is below and between the two lower fixing screws for the VR. The third photo is a close up cropped photo of the screw and its position.
Hope this helps.

Re: Voltage Regulator Earth
I have a n.o.s. RB340 Regulator and it has a black ground wire connected to the upper spade terminal.
I'll pull it to take pictures and measure the wire.

Re: Voltage Regulator Earth
Thanks so much, Rob. That's really helpful. Now I look, I do indeed have a hole for a self-tapper in the same place.
And, thanks in anticipation, Jose.

Re: Voltage Regulator Earth
the wire is 6-1/2" inches long, with one copper Spade connector at the regulator end, and one steel Ring connector at the other end.
The measurement is from the end of the spade connector to the end of the Ring connector. It seems this is a redundant Earth because the chassis of the Regulator contacts the body through a mounting screw at the front where there is only 1 mounting screw.

Re: Voltage Regulator Earth
Thanks, Jose. That's very helpful. No, the earth is definitely not redundant. You might, if you had bare metal on the inner wing, get an earth via one of the rubberised mounting posts by chance. But, I know from expensive experience that that little earth tag is definitely needed.
That's a very nice example you have there and thanks for sharing it with us.

Rob, Do you have photos or the wiring diagram used to eliminate your voltage regulator and convert to an alternator?cass3958 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 10:46 pm Orlando I have been looking at my old photos which I have reproduced below. Re: Voltage Regulator Earth
Joe I covered the wiring in this topic http://jagstyperegister.com/forum_new/v ... nator#p802
The wiring was pretty easy once I had worked out what all the wires from the VR were doing and eliminated them all from requirement on the new set up. There is no wiring diagram but I have walked through in this topic where the wires go, their colours and what you need to take out and leave in.
