It's a good job my wife is not reading this post !! I will try doing photo's of the repaired knob on the forum. This is not my speciality so bear with me.
Basically the small securing screw was missing off the lever and the broken knob glued together on the lever, it did come off using a warm air blower gently on the knob though.
Cheers

so the knob is not broken, just that the screw is missing and someone glued the knob to the lever?

Yes the knob is broken in half, i would think by using an over sized screwdriver at some time removing the screw. then stuck together and put onto the lever. I didn't realise until I noticed the screw missing and the knob stuck to the lever when taking the centre console out.

I see, those knobs were made out of some type of "Bakelite" plastic. Hard to find one in perfect condition since they lose their shine
with aging, becoming flat black.

You are spot on Jose it looks like Bake-a-lite material but it's looks different to the 420 having no writing on just a plain scollaped end. Hence I wondered what the difference is from the Mk2 which looks to have a longer point end shape. The MK2 ones are available and possibly the same material.
My broken one will suffice until I find secondhand one, but I will compare with the MK2 also. You are correct about the rear vent knob it is the same.

Always worth giving Rob Burston in Taunton a ring on 07710823453 or 01823400128 as he has several S Types he is breaking and he might be able to supply you with a Knob or two.
This was his place a couple of years ago but he is always buying up scrap Jaguars so you never know what he will have in. He never throws anything away.

Thanks for the reminder Rob I was going to ring him about the seat belt buckles I wanted, but a chap in the JEC has some stored away and just needed to find them.
They were in a box up in the garage loft from a Mk10, hence I closed the wanted request on the forum.
I will give Robert a ring next week.
Cheers
