Re: Vibration

I would second the comment above about the engine and gearbox mounts. Many decades ago I removed the gearbox mount cradle (MOD car) and when replacing failed to get all the shim washers back in place as they came out. This resulted in a vibration at speeds around 50 MPH. Reshimmed the mount and elim...

Re: Almost a unique collision

I try to practice 120% situational awareness whenever I take any of my cars out , which are all vintage classics, but the streets have become a tidal wave of rude, impatient, tailgating, and speeding drivers in over powered vehicles or massive pickup trucks. And in my area and there appears to be vi...

Re: Luggage compartment light 1965 3.8s

Following up on the boot light issue, I decided to address the recalcitrant mercury switch. My car has been through at least two in 50 years. My solution was to replace the incandescent bulb with an LED (Moss part number LLB989NG {this is for a negative earth car}) and cut open the mercury switch, r...

Re: Luggage compartment light 1965 3.8s

Yes the mercury switch is problematic, I hit the underside of the boot lid with my fist and it comes on. i do like the idea of an LED for this, Might source one and fit.

Re: Interior light door switch

So I'm guessing any work or replacement of this switch, requires removal of the interior kick panel trim for access.

Re: Locked brakes

Might not be your issue but if the master cylinder is like many there is a return port that allows fluid to return after the brakes are applied. There is a critical adjustment as I recall on the linkage/pushrod the allows this port to be open when the pedal is not depressed. Since you rebuilt the ex...

Re: Engine out - part 2

Yes,after many, many decades good to clean out the crankshaft oil ways. Getting the staked in plugs out can be a real bugger. My shop says they broke two wrenches doing it.

Re: Engine out - part 2

Correction: it was Classic Quality in the UK that supplied the mechanical oil pressure gauge kit which was one of the best changes I have ever made to this car owned for 57 years.
