Radio removal / console & parcel shelf
Re: Jaguar S Type MOD 1965 bought June 2018
my '65 has the finger pull at the glovebox lock.
it has a black sleeve over it. It's been like that since I got the car.

LOL! My restorer has his shop on a large rural piece of land. I certainly have no space at home. Just an over tight 6.3 X 6.3 metre double garage & a steep driveway. Only room for the Jag & my daily driver. Have just been installing shelving to achieve floor space & happy with my handywork.cass3958 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 01, 2018 5:43 pmI am sorry? All three of your cars. You obviously have too much room at your house. I hate you people who can afford to have a donor car and the room to keep it. If I had a donor car here in the UK within a couple of years it would just be a pile of rust on the driveway and the wife plus the neighbours would be complaining. lol.

My first restorer that I fired lost a number of bits so a donor car was the only answer. I, very cheaply, bought a job lot. 1 X complete but partially stripped S Type, 1 X S Type shell (rust bucket) with front suspension & a few useful bits (more useful than expected) & a Mk2 shell.

I have kept a number of bits I might need like spare gauges, a spare set of carbs & a host of bits like spare heater radiator etc. The rest is being sold off now. 3.8 engine, Moss gearbox, long tail overdrive, suspensions & bodywork. Anything left over will be sold off as scrap. My complete donor had been converted from Auto to Manual with it's original engine but Moss & OD from who knows where.

Re: Jaguar S Type MOD 1965 bought June 2018
Thank you so much for this information. I have read the Jaguar S type manual plus an Autobooks one several times now in addition to looking at the parts manual and still was'nt sure how to go about the removal without breaking something. I can see now why a total restoration costs so much now with the amount of man hours just taking all the chrome off before re-spray and putting it back afterwards. I agreed to do this to save costs and to see what chrome will clean up & what requires re-chroming which can be done before the car goes away. I believe I read somewhere that the Jaguar saloons did'nt make any money when produced in the 1960,s, if that's true, I can fully understand why, the man hours to build and why use 2 screws when 10 will do does make me wonder. This is my first Jaguar in a list of cars owned over the years so please bear with me, I am sure you guys who owned Jags over the years are well use to it.
Cheers for now.

That's weird. The only ones I have seen were chrome (no black sleeve) and fitted to VERY early 1964 production.

I would love someone to do a total parts count of a Jaguar S Type & compare that with a 1965 Ford Mustang. The difference must be staggering.jonesdl wrote: ↑Sat Dec 01, 2018 7:55 pm Thank you so much for this information. That's why a proper S Type restoration takes so many hours by comparison.

Re: Jaguar S Type MOD 1965 bought June 2018
my '65 was built and exported in 1964. Could be a California distributor or DOT thing?
examples: my car came with a power antenna and a B.M.C.D. AM radio, like many California Jaguars did,
it had the pull and the sleeve over the pull.
it has the 9:1 compression 3.8 engine.
it has a J/64 aluminium tag over the factory numbers plate, AS ALL California Jags exported to California did.
and it has the Bowed wool headliner when most S type of the period had a foam board shaped like the roof onto which the wool headlining was bonded. I would love to find one of those foam boards.

Re: Radio removal / console & parcel shelf
anybody know if, and possibly when 8 track radio units were fitted from the factory. I have an 8 track fitted but not working!!. I'm not worried about the radio working but was possibly intrigued if it was from new. just to add about changes, my early 1964 has the glove box pulldown hook on the lock but no rubber sleeve and no coat hooks.

Re: Radio removal / console & parcel shelf
John,
as far as I know, there were no 8-tracks in 1964, however, there were record players, as we discused in the old forum when a picture of George Harrison in a MK-2 shows him changing a record.

Re: Radio removal / console & parcel shelf
A question for anybody with knowledge of the S type Hot & Cold knob on the control lever part number BD25857. Is the Mk 2 control lever knob part number C15719 the same ?. Only whilst taking my centre console out I noticed that the control lever knob had been repaired poorly, broken at some time and glued. SGN Barratt do not have the S type part available, but do have the MK2 part in stock hence the question. They look from the pictures a slightly different shape but not sure.
Appreciate if anybody knows the answer.

Re: Radio removal / console & parcel shelf
the knob for the hot-cold lever is the same as the knob for the Rear Air Vent lever located on the console.
Whether the MK-2 uses the same knob, I don't know, But the MK-X, 420, and 420G use the same knobs.
