Sway bar ?

Best place to place axle stands or Jack stan's is either on the long chassis legs that run front to rear or under the front cross member itself. No chance of crushing anything unless your chassis legs are rotten. There is no need to touch anything on the front suspension to replace the sway bar bushes or linkage arms. Each of the sway bar bushes are held in place with a "U" bracket on to the chassis leg with two bolts each. Remove these bolts and the sway bar will just swing loose as long as the wheels are off the ground and the suspension is extended. Change the bushes and swing it back up in to place. If you are changing the drop links then with the sway bar loose the linkages will easily unbolt and can be changed. You do have to have both front wheels off the ground as if you only have one then the sway bar will be under tension.

A word of advice, don't use the standard rubber bushes on the chassis legs, use uprated poly items as they last much longer and are not affected by any oil leaks from the the engine.

Is a MkII swaybar the same as an S-Type ?

I just received a replacement sway bar and noticed that the packaging is marked MkII.

I will compar the replacement bar with the original when I replacing the downlinks and bushings.

Part numbers for the Mk2 and S Type Sway bar are the same. Anti Roll Bar Heavy duty C14035. Same for the 420.

The Mk2 was also fitted with a presumably lighter Anti roll bar on the earlier cars part number C10935 so make sure you do not have this one. It will no doubt fit but not be as heavy duty.

The replacement bar is C14035. This has been identified as an updated bar for my 3.8S.

I believe it’s a 1/4” thicker than stock. Will know when I start the replacement.

I lift using a roller floor jack under the A arm then support the car with a jack stand under the channel that the factory jack arm slides into.
