Radio grille fixing studs

There are four "studs", part number BD26751, that hold down the chrome radio grille to the parcel shelf. Does anyone still have the originals in place and,if so, would you describe what these studs are?

if you mean the chrome grille that is set horizontally above the radio, They are push-on black nylon (plastic) "rivets", i.e., they go in under tension/pressure.

to remove them, you would gently pry under the grille edges itself until each stud is slightly raised, then you pull the studs with a "fork" type tool.

The “Cover on Parcel Tray, over Heater Control Lever”, Part No. BD26004, is held in place with four (4) Part No. BD.26751, “Fixing Stud, securing Cover to Parcel Tray”.
Part No. BD26751 is a black plastic stud with a thin slightly rounded head 9/32 in. in diameter. The 1/8 in. diameter shaft is 1/2 in. long (under the head). A 25/64 in. long, 5/64 in. wide, 3/32 in. deep, groove in the shaft allows it to be press-fit into the hole.

yes, I call them "push-rivets".

I think I have them if you need them. Will have to search for them.

by the way, these studs or "rivets" were used all the way to 1992 in the Series 1, 2, and 3 XJ-6/12. They were used in many places in the interior, boot, even in the engine compartment. My 1984 XJ-6 has them all over the place, same as those used in the S type.

I haven't been ignoring your responses to my question of a year ago on this forum, it's just that I guess I thought the default was an email notification when someone responded to a post and I couldn't understand that no one had a comment. Looks like I need to check "Notify me when a response is posted"? Administrator take note.

Anyway, I did find a suitable substitute for the split rivet at the local True Value. They are solid plastic rivets with the correct head and a shank just a little larger in diameter than the hole in the parcel shelf for a tight push fit. Thanks for all the information.

In some early cars these studs were clear nylon that yellowed badly. In later cars they were black. I can find no indication of when this changed.

My XJ-6 has them by the dozens, under the rear seat, in the blower fan cases, and behind the dash.
