I owned a '66 Daimler 2.5L V8 for a time. I think there was only so much demand for the Daimler brand, plus it would have been much harder to make a more upscale 3.8S with Daimler badging. I think by the time the 420 was introduced, the decision to rebadge the Daimler version was made as cost cutting and brand consolidation was underway.
I was fortunate to have at one time two very nice Mk2's, both JCNA North American concours champions. I have driven thousands of miles in Mk2's I've owned. I fail to see why some feel it's the superior car. Ignorance I guess to the world of other possibilities.

Jerry I played with a Daimler Mk2 grille on my S type and it looks awesome from the front.
Unfortunately the nose curvature or "plane" of the S type is flatter than the MK2, so it leaves about a quarter inch gap between the grille and body two thirds down the grille.
Some type of edging would hide this I think. Where the grille meets with the front lip of the hood, the clearance is perfect. About 1/16th. Here's a picture
Also I replaced the orange/amber front turn signal lenses to the original Clear lenses it came with, based on another forum member's suggestion (Cass).

Hmmm...not sure about the grill, I prefer the original. I do think the clear lenses look better on your body color. Here is a picture of my old Daimler. Loved that 2.5L hemi-head V8.

wow, that is a wonderful Daimler. I just love Daimlers. I did drive one before I bought the S type, Went to Texas to check it out, it was RHD and I was dissapointed at the overall condition, so I passed.
I regret I wasn't able to finish the car, it was a rust free, straight body. Interior needed some work, but all the pieces were there. Best part was it was given to me. I thought seriously about making a vintage racer out of it. More photos here: http://www.oldirish.com/cars/jaguar/daimler/25V8.HTML

Thanks! We had previously determined it was Cotswold Blue, even though it is listed as available to 1964 and the car is a 1965. It was built in early October 1964 as the model years were changing. The build certificate lists the color as dark blue, but it's not the dark blue poly listed on your chart. I suspect that the color Cotswold Blue may have been dropped and some 1965 cars were painted that color as long as they had it on hand. The other possibility is that the name Cotswold Blue was dropped in favor of Dark Blue sounding more contemporary. Hard to say, but we are going with Cotswold Blue for now.
The photo was taken at our local cars and coffee with another 3.8S on the register P1B76415DN of John Quilter.
