BTW ~ my further scratching after our first thread in this regard is that it seems a few car were initially fitted with Mk2 subframes & did not have the stabalisers but once they started fitting them they were fitted to all PAS & non PAS cars until deleted. You are spot on there!Orlando St.R wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 4:22 pm
My interpretation of the parts catalogue is that they were fitted to all cars - PAS and non-PAS - up to those chassis numbers, with a slightly different part being fitted to LHD PAS cars.

Re: Radiator disaster.
My car is back from the paint shop picked it up last week. I have to fit all the chrome etc and put the interior back in it looks pretty good, but so much for the 6 to 8 weeks. I kept getting bumped by regular customers with 3 to 6 cars they had mine 21 weeks in total.
I am off with the caravan tomorrow for a week but will post some pictures when back.
Cheers

Re: Radiator disaster.
Further to my earlier post I have now checked my front engine mountings and I do have the stabiliser arrangement, my car was built August 1965. So assume I should not have a similar problem to Rob's of the engine going forwards to damage the radiator. Although perhaps prudent to check the top rubber mountings frequently to check for any separation.
Incidentally I was talking to another 1966 S Type owner at the Weald & Downland Jaguar Sunday recently who had exactly the same incident pulling away from traffic lights on a hill the fan went through the radiator, no stabilisers fitted to his car either a 3.8 MOD.
I did tell both S Type owners present about the Register and gave them all the info they both seemed to be interested and may follow up accordingly.
Cheers

Re: Radiator disaster.
I think we all need to check on the condition of our engine mounts. If you have replaced them with a modern reproduction they do not seem to last as long or be made of the same quality as the originals. I will be checking mine every year at service and might even change them out for polycarb mounts which could last longer but would not be as soft. Problem is though it is not the rubber material so much as the bond between the rubber and metal that gave way in my case. The rubber is just bonded on to a flat piece of metal and the rubber sheared loose. If the design was such that the metal plate had ridges or raised areas that the rubber sat in to the chance of shearing would be a lot less.
