Unfortunately I don't trust MOT's especially after my experience with the MG Frog over the last year. The place that MOT'ed it last year also carried out the welding and other work that turned out to be far below the required standerd. I showed the photos to my MOT guys this weekend and they were appalled that it was passed. When I bought my S Type it came with an MOT that was as bent as a nine bob note with the lack of brakes and rot not to mention the bald tyres.

Interesting you mention this trust of MOTs Nigel. I just took delivery of a Mazda B2500 pickup which I bought unseen from Rochdale. It came with a brand new 12 month MOT and was delivered to my door. As soon as I filled up with fuel there was a fuel leak on the tank. When I got underneath to check on this I found both rear exhaust brackets were broken or missing allowing the tail of the exhaust to hang free, The rear spring hangers were dangerously corroded. The leaf spring bushes were perished. The gearbox cross member had a rust hole in it that had been stuffed with newspaper then covered with filler and painted black. Just a couple of the faults I found which I am now taking up with a. the garage I bought it off and b. VOSA.
Long distance complaining is not easy though.

My Jag shouldn't have passed the MOT 2 years ago with the state the rubbers were in. I bought it with the agreement it would pass, there you go, lots of malicious MOT stations who would let a car pass for some reason.
We have a random recheck by the official authorities , if the results are different, the MOT station-master will get a remark and with 3 remarks he has lost his right to test and approve.
