FOUND: Picnic Tray for 1968 S type

I think you need to join the queue. I have one but it is damaged and the veneer has chipped off the leading edge. I would like another in better condition. Been looking for ages at Beaulieu and Stoneleigh but have yet to come across one.
I saw an advert on Ebay last month where someone was selling walnut burr veneer so I intend to get some plywood which is what the tray is made from and to apply some new veneer to it to make a tray. Your problem perhaps is that not having a tray you also do not have the sliders that the tray has to sit on so it can slide in and out from under the dash?
I take it that Matching Green is the village in Essex where you live?
Just North of Royston there is a Jaguar restorers called Flying Cat Engineering SG8 0EH. I would not recommend their work but they might have spares and worth a call. 01767 631731

Try these guys. They have broken a few S Types in the last couple of years & found a few obscure parts for me.

it is just a rectangular piece that you can have veneered, but matching your wood is another story.

Then you need the cleat to pull it out.

then there are two spring steel attachments on each side to keep it from sliding by itself.

Thanks Guys,

As I am currently removing all the wood for repair and re-lacquering I have sort of decided to copy a friends tray and then try my hand at veneering it , then include it with the rest of the wood for lacquering. This is at the moment my last resort ! I will carry on trying to find one, again to be included in the re-lacquering.

Thanks again Dennis

While you make your tray you might wish to be anal like me.

In RHD cars the glove box & tray handles are mounted in opposing orientation like this.

In LHD cars the glove box & tray handles are mounted in the same orientation.

unless you have the finger pull like my car has.

If you have no luck doing a pro lamination, send it to Saul at British Autowoid and he will do it for you. Saul is from Wales but lives in Orlando Florida.

He has a 420 and a 340 in mint condition that he brought from UK. He also had a S type.

I can vouch for Saul's work. It is superb. A true artist!

Indeed. A very few early 1964 cars had a finger pull on the glovebox lid as shown in the brochure. We have covered elsewhere here.

I find the pull a lot more comfortable than the boat bow cleat handle pull.

did you research the black rubber sleeve on the pull?
