Re: Vibration

Apologies for tardy response, I’m having internet problems. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll check the drive shaft orientation to start and may get it checked and balanced to ensure it is ok. Unfortunately I did not mark it up when I withdrew it for the engine out job. Am I correct in thinking that ...

Since motor and gearbox out, I now have a vibration in the car. It is not wheel related. Any ideas ?

Engine out - part 2

It's taken a while, but engine & gearbox now out of car. No real dramas, just a bit scary with it all up in the air !, used a similar engine lifter attachment as you cass. Because I'm not sure what parts were reused and what were new during the overhaul 10 years ago, I intend to replace most mov...

Re: Engine out

Thanks all, out the top it is with gearbox attached.
I've lifted motors out of a "parts" S and a 420 and it was pretty scary with all that weight up in the air !.
But it has to be done and I have the time and a couple of capable mates !.

Engine out

Numerous factors point to an engine removal for me - low oil pressure, strange noises etc. Suspicion is there is a problem with main and/or crankshaft bearings. Questions: 1. I assume removal is out the top, via an engine hoist ? 2. Is it easier to remove both the engine & gearbox as one ? or ju...

Re: Timing chain

I have removed the breather and cam covers to view/adjust the chain. Would you believe that both sides now have the same tension, no sloppy chain on the inlet side anymore ! I suspect that the comment re "sticking tensioners" may be the answer and these have loosened after running the engi...

Re: Timing chain

Thanks cass3958, can always rely on you for prompt, reliable feedback - much appreciated. No, unfortunately didn't even think of replacing the tensioners, but the motor has done less than 5k since rebuild, so as long as they were replaced then, they should be good to go. Mind you, they stuffed all t...

Timing chain

I've had the head off my S to finally fix a noisy #1 inlet valve issue. Head now back on and I made real sure that when I removed the head, that the cam shafts were set up with the Jaguar cam tool. I also ensured that the chain did not move on the sprockets by securing them with cable ties. Used the...
