Thanks for that David I thought mine was cad plated. I have lost my contact now for cad plating since retirement as it is still used in aviation industry for the M,O.D. I will ask the when I get the chroming done about dull zinc plating perhaps.

what? mine was chromed, if you are talking about the Diamond Mesh "bug guard" seen when the scuttle is opened?

maybe someone had it chromed before I bought the car, it was quite oxidized / tarnished so I sanded it and painted it gloss black. Didn't want to bother rechroming it.

You can see both the early and late Scuttle vent screens in Newsletter Vol. 5, No. 12 and when they changed from woven wire to expanded metal. Both cad plated.
Cheers,
David

I don't know what the factory spec would have been but either black, body colour or silver would be fine in my view as it is hardly seen. I don't even remember what colour mine is but I think it is black.

Scuttle vent wire gauze colour

The "silver lady" is off for re-spray today almost a month late but all the restoration companies are so busy it appears at present.
However, my question is what colour should the scuttle vent wire gauze be. My original well tarnish one appears to have been originally cadmium plated looking at it closely, although it is slightly rusty in places.
Thought I would ask the question as it requires sorting whilst the car is away.
Many thanks.
