Hi all,

Thanks for the response. Just for your info:
I ordered the Tie Rod Pin Bush (133101) at SNG in Holland. Before I ordered they confirm me that is should fit in C29094.
Now we know that this isn't the case. They sell only the complete Tie Rod End RH version C29094*. LH isn't available.
The rubber in the existing left side is degraded too. So I want to replace both to avoid the vague steering behaviour.
So I decided to use both ordered 133101 in the existing Tie Rod Ends. I press the old one out and make use of a sleeve to fit the 133101.

Saying this I realise me now that the 133101 is a bit longer as the old ones.
Does anybody know if there is enough spacing for the extra length on top of the Tie Rod Ends when they are under the car?
Unfortunately I don't have made pictures before the disassembling.

My car is a S-type (1968) RH-drive 3.4 automatic with PAS.

Thanks,

Harrie

It is pretty tight between the centre tie rod and the sump on the standard set up and I had to do a bit of wriggling to get mine back into position. If you create sleeves that are of sufficient diameter to allow the pins to slide fully into the tie-rod ends, that will allow you maximum clearance.

Moving the steering from one side to the other gives you a bit more space to insert the pins.

So it's a late run out car with Varamaric PAS. One would expect some commonality with the 420 but everything seems to have superseded to the same parts.

To save the hassle I think I would just fit new left & right tie rod end/drag links complete from Martin Robey as Orlando suggested.

Hi all,

Just an update. My local machineshop created for me 2 nice sleeves.
Attached some pictures. I will weld the sleeves into the tie-rod-ends and press the new pins into it.
Hopefully the steering behavior will be improved. It's one of my latest point for MOT.

Regards,

Harrie

ps. I contacted Martin Robey about the tie-rod-ends. Unfortunately he can only deliver the RH version (same as SNG).

That's a very neat job! Hope you don't have to take them out again too soon.

Very nice job. I fitted the uprated pins. Has anyone had them in long enough to evaluate if they are better. The standard items don't seem to last well.

Hi Glyn,

I known that several people advises to use the uprated version. But I bought already the standard ones.
I will try these first and can switch to the uprated versions in the future.

Hi all,

Just to inform you that after the welding and pressing the new pins into the Tie_Rods the steering behavior is excellent.
The vague steering and wandering is now completely disappeared.
Yesterday the car is accepted for MOT.
So I'm a happy legal driver.

Ready for the next step (interior).

Regards,

Harrie

That is a great result all your hard work has paid off, hopefully I will not have to undertake a similar task soon. On to the next job on your S type now then.
