DISC TYPE ROAD WHEEL

Post by DevilDog »

One of my disc road wheels (hub cap) will not be able to be re-chromed. Need one for a 1965 Jaguar 3.8 S-Type RHD.
Please contact me if you have one that is used but able to be re-chromed to match my other three.
Here is a photo of mine....you can see the one in the middle of the bottom row cannot be saved.

Sorry Joe I had two sets last year after I converted to wire wheels but sold them both on E bay. I still have several embellisher rings in good condition that would not need re chroming. If I was you though and after you have spent the money you have I would bite the bullet and change the steels for wires. They look so much better. It changed my S Type from looking like an old man's car in to a sporty looking mean machine.

Rob...thanks for the reply. If I do change to wire wheels, I still would like the originals chromed and stored. Sorry I missed your sale. Love the photo.

Once you go to wires you will not need the chrome discs and they will just clutter up your garage. Instead of spending the money on chroming buy the wire wheel hubs and a set of wire wheels. As they have the car in pieces it will not cost anything to change to wire hubs now but could cost hundreds to get the garage to do it in 6 months. I can assure you it is money worth spending to change to wires and cleaning them is a doddle with a pressure washer. By putting wires on it is not as if you are radically changing the vehicle as wires were an option when new. You can go for stainless steel, spokes, chromed spokes or as I did painted spokes which was the prefered option when new. Stainless spokes have a reputation for breaking but that depends on how the roads are around you and the amount of miles you are going to drive. Chromes are the original wheels as are the painted ones.
You have to admit that my car looks better on the wires than on steelies.

Fit these - really easy to clean.

I'll have a rake around in my shed tomorrow as I have a few hub caps but not sure if they are S Type or XJ, I'll let you know.

Joe, had a good search but only found one XJ cap and that had a ding in it. I must have sold them off when I first went over to alloys back in the 70's.

Joe,

I happened upon a set of hubcaps last year (that will need re-chroming) that are tucked away in the garage. Not averse to splitting one out for you if it helps you out of a hole.

I'll dig them out tomorrow and take some pics.

It's wires on the Mk II for me, but most definitely disc wheels on the S-Type.

Stan,
Thanks....looking forward to the pics. I would need to re-chrome whatever I got so as to match the rest.

Not trying to start an argument here but seriously Stan are you trying to tell me from the photos I added that my S type looked better with steel wheels on than now with the wire wheels? Wire wheels all day long for me I am afraid on both.
