I would not like to try & weld it. They always crack next to that lug.

You would have thought they would guarantee the part.lol.

It is made of aluminium by the looks of it but it depends on the quality of the alloy and only a welder can help with whether it can be welded.

I found a replacement, but when I get the old piece out, I'll
ask a friend (specialist in welding) if he can do it.

I was very surprised it's not in any catalogue. I used to think
all parts are available, but not...
I'l let you know if it's possible (but that will be after the holidays).

I think the alloy used in those parts have some zinc in them for strength & hardness over straight aluminium. This can make welding a challenge.

Good luck!

You could try cutting some slots in the broken edges with a dremel tool then use JB Weld. With the slots cut it allows the JB weld to gain some purchase on the broken edges rather than two flat edges being put together. A bit like dove tailing a wooden joint.

Sounds like a good idea.

I have never used JBWeld as I've never trusted the stuff. But when I read all the support for it on other forums & so many showing absolute faith in it I think I must give it a try. I think I'm letting prejudice get in the way.

The metal is known as Mazak or pot metal and as Glyn said has a high zinc content, it's the same metal as the door handles and number plate/reversing lamp casting. It can be soldered with care as it will fall to bits with too much heat, you could give lumiweld a go

Thanks for the info. The piece is expensive enough
to give it a try.
