Left hand front door lock required.

Post by cass3958 »

A month ago I spent a couple of weeks re doing my door cards and fitting new moisture barriers. Always the way as this week my left hand front door push stopped working and I could not open the door from the outside. Opened OK on the inside handle.
So I stripped the door card back out, had to remove the moisture barrier and had a look at the door mechanism. Bitch to get to and see what was wrong. In the end I had to take the whole window frame out of the door so I could see in from the top. Something was wrong as there was no connection between the door push and the mechanism. Something was missing so I fished about in the bottom of the door and found what is described as the "Plunger operating lever" which had snapped off.
I have attached a couple of photos.
Does anyone in their box of many bits or on a parts car have a spare left hand door lock mechanism I can have as per the picture?
I only require the plunger piece but it appears to come as one part, ie all of the door lock and is not broken down in to its small components in the parts book although it can be stripped down to replace this one piece..

Is this any good to you Rob? Found it in a tin under my bench so it's a bit grubby with original factory grease.

A bit grubby but it is in one piece where as mine is in two so if I send you my address can you post it to me Nigel. Question is the adjustable stopper screw in place like on the part that has broken off on mine.
Sorry Glyn you are right I put it in the wrong topic heading. Maybe Jose can move it over for me please.

hello everybody,

I need some help.

For 10 years I'm in the possession of an S-type 3.8 2 1964 Red Carmen RHD.
I never posted before, but last week the mechanism of the front left (passenger) door
broke off.
It's the same part you've been talking about in this post.

Does anyone know what is the part n° of this piece?
Or do I have to order the full mechanism?

(I'm living in Belgium)

Not available even as an assembly. You will have to find used.

Thanks for the help.

But shouldn't Jaguar give garantuee on its pieces?
After all it's only 50 years old ? :geek:

Luckily it's only the passenger's side and I can still open
the door from the inside.

I wonder if it can be welded?
