Glyn thanks for the tip, looking at the ones on the door I thought the rivet looked smaller than the ones I would normally use. Another tool to locate, I will ask around somebody may have one I can borrow.
Cheers

John you can buy a rivet gun off E bay for less than £5 posted with all the different sized nozzles. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEAVY-DUTY-P ... :rk:4:pf:1
There is even one on there which you attach to a drill which saves on the poor hand squeezing the riveter when you are doing so many rivets. This one only costs £9.49. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-Bli ... ms=aid%3D5

That guns nozzles will not work. You need these sort of thin nozzles to get inside the clip attached to the rivet, but nevertheless available cheaply.

Another good tip, I can see what you mean now looking at the nozzle, it goes inside the alloy dome part to ensure the pop rivet is tight. Not just another pop riveter needed it seems, just as well you pointed it out or I would have possibly obtained the wrong one.

Joe ~ another area that is likely to give you trouble after re-chroming is the rear NDV hinge/labyrinth seal unless you are very lucky. Re-chroming the NDV frame & vertical attachment piece that is held in place by chrome machine screws tends to take up clearance in the hinge/labyrinth making it impossible for the NDV frame to close flush. We had to blue and relieve the vertical attachment piece on both rear NDV's to achieve flush closing. I suggest you only trim the vertical attachment piece if required. If you bugger it up it is easily replaced. Leave the frame well alone.

The piece is brass so corrosion is not an issue where you have had to remove chrome & you can't see it as it's right in the hinge/labyrinth. Good luck!

This is from a 420G but same principle.

Another area that can be a challenge is re-glazing the front & rear NDV's with new glazing rubber after re-plating. Any number of people that have never done the job will tell you "Oh ~ it's easy ~ just use a little soapy water". Well it's not so easy as the soapy water will aid pressing the glass & rubber back into the re-plated frame, but it equally makes it easy for the glass & rubber to pop out again before the water has dried. We replaced all glazing rubber with new.

We resorted to making up clamping jigs. Example of front NDV glazing jig shown below.

Glyn, the blue handle pop rivet gun you posted as an example is there a type or name for it as the only ones that come up online are the wrong type every time.
Or do you have the make and supplier of the one posted so I can locate before the car comes back from re-spray.
Many thanks.

Dave ~ it's a genuine "POP" brand riveter.

POP® TT55D Hand Riveter

EDIT: I see the same thing is sold under the Stanley & Tucker brands in the UK.
