Hi, I did not mean the vertical holes, but the horizontal ones. Three on either side. Two small with one bigger in the middle.

They are non standard. Somebody must have mounted something there. I was going to ask you what they were.

As yours is also an Auto you should have the Automatic badge to the right of the number plate and as Nigel has suggested possibly an aftermarket chrome GB badge to match on the left side.

That must be a difference on early cars as when I got mine the Automatic script was below the Jaguar 3.8 script above the rear plinth. Can I suggest the three holes were used to mount a fog warning light accessory as fitted on a lot of European cars in the eighties commonly known as the "Belgian Block".

Hi, the thing is I dismantled he car myself, but just can't remember anything which looked aftermarket. If it were the Automatic badge it would not cover the middle hole. Besides they are exactly on both sides.

Glyn,
Puppies gone. All went well. Easter approaching and then it is time to work on Miss Kitty. Do not think we will get to the chrome for awhile since we have so many other things to attend to, but I printed out this thread for our reference. I will post as we make progress. Thanks for the bump.

Any one had a tough experience fitting chrome finishers sourced from barrats?

We had no issues with fitting chrome finishers from Barratts other than rear drip rail which was wrong profile & Barratts replaced FOC. Their supplier fouled up a couple of years back & they returned their entire stock.

The only thing that is heavy going to refit is the rear window chrome as I mention in my listing.

Regarding the Automatic cars. There were 3 iterations over the S Type life.

1) Centered under the 3.4/3.8s (scrolled style)
2) Where cass/Robs car has it mounted
3) Totally deleted.

Was it something like this? The one on the right is the original.

In my case the radius of the curl did not match the radius of the curl on the car drip rail & the angle of cut off at the tab was out as you show. Replacements were correct in both respects.
