I appear to have either a notice or decal missing above the battery in the engine bay and I wondered if anybody could offer an idea as to what is could be. It measures approx 65mm long & 15mm deep held by one self tapping screw by look of things.
I though either a notice indicating a warning of positive earth on the battery, a made in England notice or a Henleys Dealer decal ?.
I have added a photo hopefully it will come out the right way.
Regards
Dave J.

I've taken a look through my engine compartment archive of a few hundred shots/pics from around the world. Nothing! A few have mounted the yellow +ve earth warning there but that was not standard. I suspect something local like dealer but it will be interesting what others have to say.

Thanks for looking through your photo's Glyn. I thought it was strange as I have never seen anything their apart from the the battery warning notice on one S type and several Mk2's. With the screw hole in the middle a Henlys Group Ltd plate perhaps, as this sticker is on the rear number plate, that would fit the size of the space. I was just interested to what this could have been screwed there.

Interestingly it's not in the same place. More reason to believe it's something local. I could not even find a car with a hole in my pic collection.

mine has a little aluminium tag screwed unto the firewall but it is above the factory plate. All Jaguar exported to California in the early 1960's have this little tag.

That hole Jose is in the same place as mine and looks like another opalascent silver grey as well. My car is a U.K. car from new so I wouldn't have thought the two screw alloy plate would apply like yours in the U.S.

the Made in England tags have two screws, so that is not it either.

might it have been a screw hole for a battery cover holdown bracket?

I would plug it since you might be getting engine fumes to the interior through it.

That hole in Jose's pic is lower than yours Dave. I think a dealer or owner attached something there (had a self tapper in it). I agree with Jose. Stick a blanking grommet in it. I would be fascinated to know what was there.

This CA 420 has a similar tag to Jose's but to the right of the Data Plate. Sorry ~ I know we are OT.

Your right Glyn, I should have put right area in the centre but hole is lower than mine. As my car will be in the hands of several people over the next few months having the re-spray & new Webasto cover fitted, there is a positive earth battery warning notice the same size i will use as a reminder in the space.
It looks as though there was nothing official from Jaguar placed there which is what I wanted to check out.
However is there a an engine bay decal list on the forum ? for an S Type without P.A.S. My car currently only has the Dunlop fluid notice above the brake/clutch reservoir and a red Smiths heater motor notice & red direction indicator.
Cheers
