My original heater showed no sign of ever having these decals.

As far as I'm aware, S-types never had the positive/negative earth plates. I retro-fitted one on my car to warn people working on it. I believe 420s had them, though, presumably because the negative earth was 'new'.

Possible. I'm sure we will find exceptions. Mine was screened/stamped on in white. To repaint I had to destroy. The cars are without doubt variable. Alan kindly provided me with the artwork to try & have stamps made. I must say my white print was so deteriorated that the hard rub of a finger would remove it. Yours might just have worn off when I look at your pic closely.

The screened/stamped/painted on variety.

Didn't realize this subject was up and running. Don't know how much help I can be but here are a few comments. Car 7B75188BW 1964

1. My car has no drill holes on the firewall above the battery or above the ID plate.
2. Glyn's list of decals is pretty comprehensive but I have a couple of questions: Is there a photo available of the horn relay sticker? Is there a photo available of the regulator sticker? I have neither. I did notice a picture of a regulator on one of the topics that showed some kind of sticker on the front side. You wouldn't normally see it if you had the regulator/wiring plastic cover in place.
3. The photo of the PS reservoir in this topic shows the fill cap at about four o'clock with the sticker at about six o'clock reading correctly. My filler is at about seven o'clock with the sticker reading correctly at about twelve o'clock looking from the left wing. I went by David Reilly's car if I read his photo to me correctly. Comments?
4. No other stickers in my engine compartment.
5. David and I had a little discussion about the colors on the early Screenjet stickers - some were reddish, others brownish. Mine is red. Comments?

Always willing to learn.

Alan ~ I have mountains of pics to go through & I'm in trustee meetings for the next few days. I will find Photo proof/evidence of all I know of. Horn relay & side of regulator I definitely have somewhere. Side of regulator was a polarisation reminder IIRC & might have only applied to replacement units that got left on when fitted ~ there was also a yellow crayon marking on the face of the regulator cover ex factory. Early horn relay sticker is just red with the P/N on it. PAS lid sticker was variable on early cars. Seemed machine applied later & more consistent. Relationship to filler neck is what matters. Position on the lid I show is by far the most prevalent. There is variation. Lid can be rotated as you know. I'm hoping others will chip in with their cars details. I have no research on 1964 cars with glass bottle Screenjets ~ only a few pics. I have noticed the variation but don't know what is correct. I was restoring a very late 1965.

Here is a 3.4 car with the regulator decal but I have far better somewhere fairly close up.

Here is a new horn relay for cars with horns not wired via ignition as shown in older parts manuals (e.g.1973)

Folks. This is going to be a listing of decals I've noticed fitted to S Types around the world that appear OE. It's up to you to decide what is right for your car & give us input. This is not my thread, it is our thread. It is an attempt to help Dave & share our experience. There is no such thing as a definitive S Type. Browns Lane & it's suppliers were simply not that disciplined. The best we can hope for is to find patterns for particular model years or build periods.

Well, what a great bunch of guys you all are, I never though my simple question would have generated so much information coming from around the world. Don't break a leg Glyn looking through your files, I am in no rush, I will lose the car for a few months soon but will put any missing decals on that should be there on its return providing they are still available. I want my car to be correct for it's year but not over the top where I would be frightened to use it during the year. I think from the posts my car is similar to yours 1965 3.8 MOD but not a U.K. built which mine is so there may be some differences. To be honest unless I bumped into the specialists from this site nobody else would know anyway what was right or wrong regarding an S Type.

I've never seen the regulator sticker before, but I found a few on ebay and elsewhere (not specifically from S-types). I'd have thought these would be more likely on replacement units, would they not? The factory wouldn't have needed that instruction.

Who knows Orlando ~ I've seen them on a number of cars traveling the world 240 days a year in the execution of my job. I always had my eyes open for S Types. I guess it depends whether Lucas separated factory supply from spare parts supply. People must make their own choices. :)
