FOUND: Wanted 2 Jaguar Britax Lyfe-Lok seat belt buckles.

Post by jonesdl »

I am after two Jaguar Britax Lyfe-Lok chrome seat belt buckles & tongues as fitted to the Jaguar 1960's saloon. I wanted to try and match the two original front seat belts in my 1965 S Type when I fit some rear ones whilst carrying the grand kids. I have been in touch with Stan and have a new alternative from Sue at FDTS if required. I have a while Feb 2019 before the S Type goes in for re-spray so thought I would see if there are any out there still available.
I believe it was "Cass" who put in a post I was reading recently about a location in Devon I believe breaking several S types but I have been unable to find the post since to ask them the question.

Hi Jonsey Welcome to the forum. The guy I use is called Robert Burston and he is based at Milverton in Taunton. The last time I was there he had at least 20 classic Jaguars from Mk2s through S types and Mk10 with the odd Mk7 to 9 lying around. His numbers are 07710823453, 07973311404 or 01823400128. Difficult man to pin down but worth taking a trip to his yard. He removes all the parts for you and you can either collect if its large or he will post it out to you at your cost.

Many thanks for your prompt reply, I could not remember what Jaguar web site your original post was on. I kept switching sites to try and find the info again. I should have made a note but at present I have so many different bits of info on the S type I need to start a new folder.
I believe I spotted your white S type down at Classic Car Restoration show recently the lone S type again in all the classic cars present along with a few MK 10's and of course all the Mk 2's. I did take some photo's on the day just in case we bump into one another at some point in the future, plus it's a reference If I need to check anything for comparison.
Incidentally are you in any classic motorcycles clubs only Jonesey is my normally I.D. on those.
Thanks again no doubt I will be in touch again with another question.

Dave, Shame we did not bump into each other at the restoration show as that was my lone S Type. It always seems to be the lone S Type at most shows I go to! Maybe next year you can bring yours along and we can start a gathering of S Types. Where are you based?
I only used Jonesy as you had not mentioned your first name. Everyone calls me Cass on here because of my handle but I am a Rob in real life and I lost the nickname Cass when I left the Army 35 years ago. If you want a contact number for the odd question PM me and I will gladly pass my number on.
You will have to add a post to the Members car section and put some photos of your S Type on the Forum!
I did manage to speak to the owner of the grey Mk10 at the show and it turned out he lives in the next village to me near Torquay about 3 miles away but I had never seen his car before at any of the local shows. He also has a Mk2, a 420 and a series 1 XJ6 to go with his Mk10. Jealous or what.

Cass, the MK-X and 420 use Heater Valve C19704 too. Just in case you meet with him, take a look at the valves.

Dave, you can use the SIGNATURE option in your CONTROL PANEL to add your car's info. Welcome and a friend in the UK is selling his S type if anybody is interested. The engine is seized.

This is the place to be on if you own an 63-68 S type thanks to all for the warm welcome. I have registered my S type and sent the history and my plans in the future for the "Silver Lady" to David several weeks ago now but I only had the photo's I took on my phone when I purchased, since then the chrome has been taken off etc ready for re-spray in Feb 2019, so what I have in photo's does not do the old girl justice.
I actually live in Fareham Hants and was converted to an S type from a Mk 2 by a guy in the local J.E.C, a wise decision to be honest and I am well pleased with my purchase after looking for almost ten months. As you say Rob I have also been to a number of classic car shows in the last year and one is lucky if one or two S types are present, my grandsons are quick off the mark now trying to spot one. They are becoming quite rare in the U.K. it appears.
I will give the guy in Devon a ring tomorrow to see if he has any serviceable Jaguar Britax buckles you never know he may come up with some.
Thanks again to all, more questions will follow as things move on.
Cheers

We are not interested in just the pristine finished car we are also interested in the before and during photos so please post what you have Dave. These are the three stages of mine.

I must say Rob that is a serious restoration you have completed on your S type you have done an excellent job. Bare with me I.T. is not my specialist subject but I have a family member who is and will put the photo's I have on. I promised David R I would do it so will try this week.
I did not want to go down the full restoration route due to lack of space so tried to get the best available with no welding required within my budget. It took a while but the S type purchased fits the bill, the underneath is better than to top so is far better for me to manage what needs to be done.
Time is my problem at present too many balls in the air compounded by having my eldest daughter and my grand kids having moved in with us, a long story with house moves, hers sold the new one backing out of the sale.
Cheers for now.

A very enjoyable 11 months though. My thought too was to get the best available so the S Type I bought had already had most of the welding done with new panels fitted.

I thought it would be a rolling restoration but every time I took a part off, the part behind needed cleaning or repairing so in the end everything came off. Engine was rebuilt as was the gearbox. I tried to use as many of the original parts I could (Seats, door cards, wood and chrome) just cleaned up so it retains its age patenia but still looks good.

Space was my problem as well and I used five different workshops to complete my rebuild. 1. Strip down, 2. Bodywork repairs, 3. Paint shop for respray, 4. Clean, repair and assemble running gear and engine then finally another workshop for 5. Finishing off all the bright work, interior and fitting the glass. I also did some work at home and had a machine shop work on the engine and gearbox for me. As I was paying for the workshop space it made me work quicker to get it finished otherwise the cost could have spiralled out of control.

What a labour of love 5 workshops, blimey I take my hat off to you.
Did you do most of the work yourself or did you farm it out to various specialist. I can see why the have so many posts having taken your restoration on to every detail. Out of interest did you log and photograph each stage of stripping and rebuilding as this info is invaluable. Nice touch keeping everything serviceable again, that's what i intend to do why renew for the sake of it.
Cheers
