50th Historic Vehicle Gathering
Powderham Castle – 12th & 13th July 2025
Powderham Estate, Exeter EX6 8JQ England

Obviously this is taking place in the UK but over seas cars are welcome to attend if you want to come and join us or are passing by.

There are a couple of us who are trying to get as many S Type Jaguars together at the Powderham Historic vehicle gathering as possible. This by far the largest classic car show held in the West of England with in the region of 2000 cars all pre 1986 on show. There are specialist stands for all makes and models of cars as well as a public turn up on the day area. I have attended this show for several years being a member of the organising club The Crash Box Club but at any one show I have only ever seen five S Type Jaguars in attendance on the same day and they have been spread over the show ground. This year we would like to have a stand dedicated purely to the 1960s S Type Jaguar. Entry for the two days is a mere £17 for individual cars but to secure a stand we need some commitment from people to attend. The show ground is not far from the M5 services at Exeter so easy to get to. Saturdays are not as busy as Sunday where you are unlikely to get an individual entry with less than a months notice. If you would like to attend either Saturday, Sunday or both days please PM me with some contact details and I will let you have all the information you would require.

Which day are you coming down, Sat, Sun or did you say you were coming down for both?

I don't think the idea of setting up a stand is going ahead. It was being organised by a friend in Dorset but it is a case of paying for a club stand in advance anticipating how many cars you think will turn out. We never got a response from anyone either from here or on the face book page so I don't think the club stand is going ahead. Which is a shame. On the day there are three areas to for classic cars to park.
The first is the club stands. Vast area with possibly 50 different single make or model stands
The second is the Crash box club marque area for Crash box club members which is in the centre of the show. This is where I generally park up as I am a member and have a friend who runs the vintage motor bike stand right beside the show area. His wife and mine are good friends so they sit together and talk about Guide dogs.
The third area is the general public area but they split this into ages so when you turn up they direct you to an area which relates to the age of your car. In our case 1960s. If we were aware of other S Types turning up you can park up outside in the public car park until three or four S Types all arrive and then enter together which means we can all park up together. It would be nice to have a line of half a dozen S Types all together but there is no guarantee we will be able to park together unless we all arrive together in a line.
Hope this makes sense.

We are coming down on Friday and staying at a nearby hotel and will be at the show for both days going home on Monday as it is a bit far to go Sunday evening. Unfortunily I'll be the only S Type coming as my friend's S Type is not ready to go yet, we replaced the rear springs and shocks last weekend but I don't think the rest of the work will be completed in time. It is booked into a workshop for welding and paint, they have delayed the work by a few weeks. They will still be coming along but in a modern car and staying in the hotel as well and I'll bring them in in my car.

As we are only a few miles to the event we can meet up outside and go in together at any time that is suitable, it would be good to group the cars together as you say. As you know the event and the local geography please let me know of a meeting point and time. How many have you managed to get to attend?

Don't know the numbers as I am not the one organising it but not as many as I would have hoped. Which hotel are you staying in as I will be travelling in from Torquay along the coastal road through Teignmouth and Dawlish.
