It is interesting with the dimples but on the photo you have shown with the E Type engine there are no bends and I don't see the point of a bend in the set up of the S type unless you don't think there is enough room between the mouth of the carb and the inner wing.
What air filter are you thinking of fitting? Will it be a gauze rock catcher or a particulate filter?
Are you doing away with the original filter and replacing it with this for a reason? Racing perhaps?
Great if you want more direct air flow for a racing engine but for driving normally I think I will stick to the original filter set up.

Now if you made a filter hosing along the same lines of the Mk10 set up where the box containing a filter was between the carbs and the inner wing, combined both carbs inlets together and ran towards the front of the car on the inlet side that would be interesting.

I would love to know what the tuned length of those trumpets is??? Air filtration is obviously rubbish. One semi heaped teaspoon of sand (silica) will ruin an engine.

The filter is made up of 3 metal meshes.
The inner mesh is stainless steel 70/80 mesh. More than adaquate.

No room for the MK10 box see pic.
Stock intake heats up from the header and acts as a hot box.
There isn’t path past the radiator to fresh cool air.

As I said. Absolute rubbish ~ Nothing but a stone catcher. Most certainly not adequate unless one intends rebuilding an engine after every race. Filter should be approx 1 micron nominal, 3 micron absolute. Mercedes will only tolerate filters of 2 micron nominal, 5 micron absolute but would prefer better. Their air-filters are designed in conjunction with Donaldson & Mann + Hummel. Donaldson have their own paper mill to control media. Mann specialises in spun polyester.

Anyway look forward to short engine life with those things. Dust is everywhere.

And as for the heat, in the original air filter system there is a hose that runs from the air filter intake to the front by the side of the radiator that draws in cooler air. Early S Types had this system but it was deleted for later models. It can be retro fitted which is what I have done on my 1968 model. The original hose was spun paper, mine is now spun aluminium but does the same thing.
Your intakes are going to be drawing hot air that is trapped under the bonnet straight into the engine.

As for the filtration I go with Glyn. If you want to try your filtration system for efficiency pour a small amount of flour into your tube with the filtration gauzes in place and then blow down it to see if the flour goes through your gauze filter. Then try doing it through the original paper filter. Bet you will see a big difference. Not trying to debunk your 3D printing and flow charts as they are very impressive but not thought through enough yet.

This movie by Cummins Diesel from the '50s ~ "Operation Hourglass" is as valid today as it was then only more so with modern tolerances in engines. That includes your rebuilt XK engine to modern standards with modern components. Skip ads and LISTEN! ~ BTW I'm a Tribologist!

Glyn and Rob’s

Thank you for your advice.

I have ordered Coverings for the metal mesh covers pictured of a polyester water repellant fabric with uniform micron openings that stops dust particles.

Should arrive in a couple of weeks.

It is good you are adding the extra screen but I also think you will need to clean it weekly to stop it clogging up. A clogged up single screened air filter is going to ruin your air flow diagram.
I don't think Jaguar had an option as to where they put the air filter on the S type as free space under the bonnet does not exists. The Mk10 had more room to run its air filter down the same side of the engine as the carbs but they also had room to put triple carbs on the engine. If there was a way to combine your air flow tubes into a a longer tube running down into the front wing combined with a large air filter and cold air coming from the front of the car it would be great, Problem is Jaguar possibly had thought about this in the 1960s and the best the design team could come up with is what we have. They did not have 3D printing though.
