S Type from 1968

Post by cass3958 »

I thought this might interest some of you.
I was walking through Torquay Devon England just the other day and there is a shop that has closed down and rather than board it up the local council have put some old photos on the shop window. The photos shows the view of the same road in this case Market Street as it was in the 1968.
Low and behold parked up in the road on the left hand side is an S Type Jaguar registration number BDV 80C.
The way UK registration numbers work, the DV means it was registered in Devon and the C means it was registered between January 1st 1965 and December 31st 1965. On our DVLA (vehicle licencing) web site the vehicle was last taxed in September 1985 and there are no MOT records for the car so I assume it is either sat rotting in someones garage or has already gone to the great scrap yard in the sky. The records show it was a grey 3.8s first registered in January 1965.

This is the same view of Market Street now. I was tempted to park my S Type in the same position but I would possibly have got a parking ticket.

That's a lovely piece of history! Is it unusual for a Church to be demolished? I suppose nothing lasts forever.

That's nice, Rob. I think I saw the same photo on Facebook.

It turns out the church was demolished in August of that same year.
