Ok bit of a rant.

I am converting my light switch from a two position Off, Side lights, Head lights to a three position switch Off, Sidelights, Headlights, Fog lights.
My car is fitted with Fog lights the original Lucas FT6s but obviously not from factory as the three position switch is not in place. When I rebuilt the car I wired them into the main beam so they are driving lights rather than fog lights.

In my box of many things I had a couple of three position switches so I am swapping this for my original two position switch and wiring it in correctly.
I have a two position escutcheon O,S,H, on the car and I have a secondhand three position escutcheon showing O,S,H,F in my box of many things but it is not in the best of condition so I looked at the SNG website to see if I could buy a new one.

Part number C15449 two position escutcheon is £10.12. The three position escutcheon part number C15447 which has the extra F but is otherwise identical is £21.35. How can they justify doubling the price for the same part just because it has the extra F on it.

I think I will stick with my not so good but perfectly serviceable secondhand one.

Rant over.

Hi.
I ordered two escutcheons for an etype a while ago. One for the heater control switch and one for the air condition fan control switch. I also noticed a considerable price difference but ordered them both anyway. Packing out I found out why. One of them was just a plastick sticker, other one was the real thing. Plastic sticker went on garage wall and shined up the original one. Maybe this is the case here also? ( or demand / supply? ) Cannot remember whitch supplier, nothing was indicated on their website.

Harald.

Rob ~ I fitted a new O.S.H.F Escutcheon to my car. My old one had micro cracking from SA's sun as did my spare ones. While the printing was fine the finishing of the plastic was poor & we spent a few hours on it trimming off flashing & polishing it on the buff to the desired standard. It now looks as good as new but many of these aftermarket parts are shoddily finished. Price variation is stupid. I paid £13.20 for it from Barratts.

What the factory originals looked like. Mine is now just slightly more shiny:

When I added fog lamps to my car decades ago I got the three position switch but simply added a white block letter decal F to the Fog position. Decals available at hobby shops.

Got a man in on Friday to wire up my fog/driving lights for me.

I wanted the fog/driving lights to come on as extra lights once I had the head lamps on either dip or main beam. I was not aware until I started doing some continuity checks on the four position switch that you can't do this hence the man coming in. What I mean by this is that when you turn the switch from H headlamps to F fog lamps the head lights go out as the fog lights come on.

So we had a great time running new wires from the fog lights back to a relay behind the dash and then wiring the fog lights up to the switch. I can understand basic electrics and the Jaguar is pretty basic but once my man was throwing in relays and extra wires going from here to there it all got very confusing. Quite fiddly getting the old switch out and the new one in with all the wires attached as some of the old wires did not want to go where I wanted them but in the end I managed to get it all together. New relay tucked behind the glove box.

So now I have the four position light switch installed with OFF, Side lights, Headlights and Fog lights which I can turn on and off without effecting the headlights so I have a full complement of lights showing at the front. Not that I drive a lot at night or in the fog but they work and look really good in wedding photos.
