I expected as much, thanks. I am going to install a spare box that I got a while back and see how badly it leaks. The current one will drain the reservoir in the 12 mile trip to my work and back.

I refurbed my Adwest Marles with new seals beginning of last year and it is bone dry. Long may it last.

Follow up report: I finally found time to install the steering box and PAS pump back to my car. No more leaks! Pro Power Steering seem to have done well. However there is still some play in the box. They did inform me that they can't do anything about it so I didn't expect a new car feeling. Could some other specialist have done something about it, don't know. But overall I'm happy with the results. Now I just need to get used to not having drops of PAS fluid on my garage floor :D

I think some of the play could be taken up with shims. Under the top cover on the Burman there is a bunch of shims so when the top cover is tightened down the top cover presses against the gears either increasing or decreasing the play. No other way as far as I am aware that you can adjust play. On the Adwest they put two adjusting screws unfortunately for the RHD version one of the adjustment screws is right next to the sump so you have to remove the steering box to get to it.

Are you sure that the play is in the steering box and not the steering column. There is a simple plunging CV joint in the column with 2 nylon rollers that wear (5 in diagram). New nylon rollers can make a huge difference. Just held on with a circlip. The UJ also needs to be good.

Thanks for your advice, gentlemen. Play is definitely in the box itself, joints in the steering column seem tight. I'm not sure if they shimmed the box properly when putting it back together. Anyway, I've been driving classic cars all my life, having a little play in the steering isn't an issue. I'm happy to have a leak free steering. Let's hope it stays that way.
