Steering box refurbishing

Post by Norrena »

I'm searching for a company that would refurbish my Burman steering box. So far I've had replies from ICS, Kiley-Clinton and Holman Engineering, all basically saying they don't want to touch Burman PAS boxes. I have also asked D & A Steering and Western Power Steering, but they have ignored my requests, which propably means the same. Could anyone recommend a company that would take the job? I prefer European companies to save myself the hassle with customs, but I'm open to all suggestions. Your advice is much appreciated.

I can understand why someone would not want to work on the Burman PAS box, very fiddly, but you would have thought any company would take the work on just charge more!

I have recently had the pleasure of talking to Ken Jenkins of UKJAG who can be found at http://www.ukjag.co.uk/store/ His phone number is 01909 733 209. He is a font of all knowledge concerning Jaguars, He is a parts supplier now but has been a Jaguar engineer since the 1960s. What he does not know is not worth knowing. I am sure if you contact him he will point you in the right direction of someone who can rebuild it for you if cannot do it himself.

I don't understand it either Rob. If Summit Brake & Steering at the Southern tip of Africa will do Burman PAS boxes and carries all the spares why not elsewhere where they are more prolific. Ken sounds like a great chap who will help.

Please let us know if Ken can rebuild them as I have not asked myself or who he would recommend.

Ken doesn't do steering boxes, but I found a company that was willing to take the job:

We'll see how it goes.

No, he could only recommend the ones I mentioned in my first post. This one I found on Google.

__ Checking in to see how your rebuild went. I am looking at that job myself. In the U.S. the only place that I am sure does it is Vintage Jag in Blackfoot Idaho. They charge close to $900 to rebuild the Burman box and I am wondering if it would be worth sending it overseas. Pretty extreme both ways I know.

Funny you should mention that. I considered Vintage Jag for my job and I would have used them if shipping to and from US wasn't so damn expensive. They are Jaguar specialists and seem to know their business. The one I used in UK was just a general steering shop. I haven't had time to fit the box back to my car yet but will do soon. If I were you, Vintage Jag would be my choice.
