Headlamp label

Post by jaguar&mg »

Assuming that I can source a new one, how easy is it to replace? Mine fell apart (and the missing 'quarter' is nowhere to be seen!) so I will have to start again. Is it as simple as pulling off the switch and then inserting a new label?

Given that it has left no mark on the wood veneer, might I assume that (unless it splits again) it is kept in place without glueing?

From memory the handle of the switch is held on with a small grubber screw. Undo the grubber screw and remove the handle and behind this is a chrome sleeve that goes through the wood. The escutcheon decal sits over the top of this sleeve and is a press fit. I do not remember there being a fixing to hold it in place so perhaps a little dab of glue behind it will hold it tight against the wooden facia.

I think Jaguar is consistent. There is a little detent sprung ball on the lightswitch shaft. You just take an allen key or whatever & stick it through the hole in the lever ~ depress the ball & pull off the lever.

Fantastic — thank you very much. I hope to receive a new one and to have installed it by the end of the weekend!

Having done that, what's the next step? Do you have to approach it from behind the dashboard? The small chrome disc does not accept the new label and presumably needs holding 'out' via being pushed from the other side?

Not so bad. Just mark where wires go with masking tape or similar.
