I always liked this rather nice touch on the inside of the glovebox lid. Wonder if it'll come off in one piece when I eventually get around to having the woodwork done. Another excuse to put it off.

Has anyone seen holes like these beneath the rear seat? Presumably it must have been for access to the cross-member/rear brakes.

US car under renovation has them (download & blow up). Presume rivets are for exhaust shields. Not sure which "holes" you are talking about? Cuts in anti drumming pads?

Yes, that's what I meant. I assumed they were holes, but I guess the anti-drumming material would have to have been cut like that to get it to stick. Curious the way oil has come through from the underside, though.

The oil stains are possibly heat caused. The anti drumming material has possibly been heated up by the exhaust running beneath and caused the oil base of the material to liquify and run out?

Yes, quite possibly. Thanks for the ideas. I stuck some dynamat over it, so it's all gone away now.

It might also be ATF or similar from under the car that sucked through the rivet holes. That floor depression under the car that the exhaust shields sit in could well cause a pressure differential at speed.

Yes, it might be that too/instead. There is also ahead of that point a seam in the bodyshell, so I guess that might also be an entry point for ATF, of which there is a lot under my car.

I am a member of the 20-49 Motor Club (http://www.20-49motorclub.uk/) and one of the privileges is we get free entry to the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club National Rally at Burghley House. As Norman will attest, it is like entering a parallel universe for the day, where the sun always shines and all is well with the world. The 20-49 Club managed a display of about 43 cars and we always get placed in the most wonderful location, overlooking the house. On the Jag front, there were a Mark 2 (which has been in the same ownership since 1972), a 340, an XJ6 S2 and my car.

Sorry I could not make it to the RREC meet on Sunday but I did go along with the Jaguar on Saturday. It is always worth attending, if only to see the largest R-R and Bentley collection of cars in the World.

Fabulous weather and I met many of my previous foreign and national customers, hope you enjoyed your visit and had chance to look over some special and unusual engineering.
