Looking at your photos Rob I'd say your slam panel is smaller than the one on my car if you look at the distance between the the lock and each side of it. I'll do another photo in the morning the same as your photo. BTW mine used to be an auto but was fitted with the DG box and no oil cooler.

I'm amazed you can get the water pump and fan in that space. I don't think it can be right having that gap there. Surely the air flowing through the radiator grille will take the path of least resistance and go up through the gap and over the top of the radiator.
Your amazed! Until Glyn pointed it out I was not aware my car was any different to any of yours.
I now have a gap no one else has got. More or less points at Pebble Beach?
I have the BW35 gearbox in my car with the oil cooler in the bottom of the radiator so I am pretty sure having had a good look at it that this must be down to the depth of the radiator with the oil cooler protruding down below the grill bottom plate where the inspection panel is. I will try and get some more photos tomorrow but this is one I took a year or so ago showing the bottom section of the radiator. I have posted this before and I remember someone making a comment about the triangular sections which are where the bottom of the radiator sits and is bolted in to. The metal braided pipes are the two gearbox cooler pipes going to the bottom of the radiator. I would like to see a photo of the bottom mounts of your radiator Orlando or Nigel to compare where the bottom mounts sit. This is a photo of the bottom mounts on the radiator and they sit directly under the radiator. I am wondering if the Manual radiator has the mounts offset, ie sticking out of the back so the radiator sits in the gap with the mounts out the back into the mount holes. I have had a look at the parts manual and although there is a different parts number for the BW35 Automatic radiator there are no other extras that might be added to cover this gap and I agree with you Orlando that it does create a gap for the air to bypass the radiator. I might have to make a stainless steel infill to cover it up as I now have an embarrassment complex about my gap.

You can see that this is manual gearbox car Glyn by the two fluid bottles. One for the brake and one for the clutch fluid. If you can find a picture of an automatic it might show the same gap as mine but it would have to be a late car with the BW35 gearbox not the DG250.

I did not want to open a can of worms. I'm just fascinated because my (slightly thicker) uprated radiator is such a tight fit & hard up against the shut panel.
It has to be something to do with very late Auto cars I think.

I will post one later in the week. But, ideally, I would think you need to see another BW35 car.

According to my log book my car was manufactured in September 1967 but not registered until February 68.

Done another measurement to the engine. Rob - those triangle support brackets look identical to mine.
I'd like to get to the bottom of this subject as I've invested time and money with bonnets turning out an inch to short in the past. Bring your tape measures to Ryton

I have just been looking at these pics and if I have got it correct, look at the last picture on page 1 with the rad gap the measurement to the edge of the slam panel is about 70mm whereas the last picture on page 2 where the rad is tight against the panel it looks about 95 an allowance should be made for slightly different positions but not that much, also look at the measurement of where the striker hole is, it looks to have about 25mm difference
