Interior light door switch

Post by Norton »

Hello.
1964 3,4 «S» type, LHD.
Interior lights does not illuminate when opening LH front door, works when opening other three doors. But where are the front door switches located? For the rear doors switch is located on the B post.

Harold The switch is located inside the A pillar behind the lower hinge. It is the back of the hinge which depresses the switch when closed.
I had the same problem that you are having and found in the end that I had a bad earth on one of the lights. As the earth is inside the B pillar I just ran a new earth from the light to a suitable earth point and now all three of my internal lights work when any door opens. At first I could not work out why the light was coming on when certain doors were open and not when another door opened. I did continuity checks on all the wiring and eventually figured it was an earth. The wiring for the lights is quite strange and was difficult to work out.

So I'm guessing any work or replacement of this switch, requires removal of the interior kick panel trim for access.

Yes. The harness to the switch is behind the kick panel.

Thank you. Easy enough when you know were to look. Can hardly believe I didn’t find it as I looked in there, but obviously not good enough.
Is your car rewired in some way? I don’t really understand your rewire a new earth from one of the lights. As I understand the wiring diagram the lighs are «hot wired» from the battery and illuminates when any of the door is opened, and the door swich make the earthing point to illuminate.
Anyway my switch dosen’t do the job and now I know how to attack the problem!

I replaced every harness in my restoration plus all 4 door switches so I knew where to look.

Stick strictly to the wiring diagram. I had mine blown up & laminated & stuck it on my garage wall. This image is good high resolution.
