I'm curious about the three position only automatic gearshift quadrant in the photo. No lower gears or park position showing??

On the MetPol police 'S'-types, the shift selector has no Park position or Low position. These are blocked off by a special pawl. It is unknown if this was by Jaguar design or done by Metpol.

hi Guys I've own SUU486F since January 2004 in June it appeared at the 175 years of the Met Police at Horse guards parade ground the band played The Sweeny music during our circuit in front of Tony Blair. I wasn't allowed to drive as I wasn't a serving police officer but went as a passenger.

History the car was based at Hendon and spent 18 months patrolling the M1 and north London. In its later days it was based at Finchley. The driver in the famous photo is Roy Chislett one of the original drivers. In 2004 I contacted Roy and he told me some really great stories. I think he was 86 at the time and never knew he adorned the front cover of Malcom Bobitts Police Car book. The car was one of the first white met police cars he told me they were very hard to keep clean and resorted to using VIM to clean them. The original colour is "Jaguar police car white". SUU486F was very original when purchased. Only the calibrated AT speedo and the Pye Vanguard radio where missing these have been fitted. A Winkworth bell was fitted under the near side front wing with two tone air horns fitted under the bonnet. A relay in the boot was used the flash ALL the rear lights. A wooden board was fitted in the boot to mount the large radio box

Welcome back John and thanks for the information. I have an old Police colleague (Long since retired) down here in Devon who was a Met police officer in the 70s. He saw my car one day and told me he used to drive the Met S types when he was on Traffic in London. Must contact him again and get some stories from him for you.

I was doing some research into the ‘last ‘S’-types and found something interesting (well, more than one thing but this relates to this topic).
Who bought the very last 3.4-lire rhd ‘S’-type built?

Hope they kept the hand brake in good operating condition, no park position showing on the shift quadrant.

My wife took the photo I was in the car. The occasion was the 175 years of the Met police 4/6/04. The location was horse guards parade. The band played the Sweeney during our circuit. Tony Blair and the chief constable seated in the box
