Rear parcel shelf trim clips

Post by gtimorison »

Hi! I'm nearing the completion of my 5 year restoration ('68 S-Type 3.4 Auto) and need to re-trim and re-fit the pressed steel trim piece that goes at the bottom of the rear windscreen on the rear parcel shelf. I can't remember or find any clips that will retain the trim to the car. I can see holes in the steel that align with the same diameter holes in the body but can't think how it attaches!

Any help gratefully received!

Can you post a photo so we can see what you mean. From memory I do not remember any clips and the rear parcel shelf was a push fit trapped between the rear of the seat and the bottom of the screen. Mine is then held down with the seat belt bolts that go through the shelf into the metal plate.

As far as I remember and I have just been out to look at my rear shelf this part is attached to the parcel shelf but I have forgotten how. Once it was attached to the shelf It was covered in Vinyl or it might have been covered first not sure but both this part and the rear parcel shelf are attached together and covered. When I attached the seatbelt mounts (this was done after the car had been on the road for a couple of years) I do remember having to remove the parcel shelf and this part came out with it.

The fillet in my car is held in place by clips that were put in place prior to upholstering.

Here is an old ill fitting original. You can vaguely see a clip between the ceiling light reflections.

Many thanks for the tips. With your help I've worked it out - I thought that the trim should attach to the car body underneath the rear screen because the holes align but it does make much more sense for the trim to attach to the parcel shelf itself. I've used some U clips that I think came off the front seats (and possibly are the same as what were originally used). End result below:

Yep now I have seen your photos it has reminded me that that is how mine is attached with those clips. I covered this piece with the same vinyl material that I covered the rear parcel shelf with so it is all black.

The Fillet Piece clip is a slightly different shape but who cares as long as it holds it firmly in place. Mine is attached as original.
