When I replaced the front tires a couple of weeks ago I found the both front tires showed the same wear pattern.
For both tires the 1st 1.5” of tread on the inside of the tires were significantly warn. The remaining tread on the tires seemed in good shape.

I ordered shims and am reluctant to have someone align the front.
My question is there a well understood relationship to adding 1/16th or 1/32nd shim that results in adding positive camber to the alignment 1.5 inches ?

I mean that I would like to move the alignment toward the outside about 1.5”s so the tire sits flat.

These cars basically run zero caster & camber. For best handling ideally you would want about 9 degrees positive caster & approx 2 degrees negative camber. Both impossible without major re engineering of the front suspension.

For the tyre wear explained above just increase the toe in on the center tie rod unless you have Varamatic PAS.

You can't put these cars on a 4 wheel alignment machine due to the low rear wheel arch.

Are you by any chance running a steering rack rather than the stock steering box? If so, this inside edge front tire wear is a "feature" of converting to a steering rack although there are a number of other advantages to a rack and pinion. I just flip the tires over on the rims when partially worn.

The car has been converted to use a XJ steering rack.
Tires are Generals 205/R15

Will increasing the toe in on the center tie rod still be applicable ?

No. With the end steer rack you will increase the toe by equal adjustment of the two side tie rods.

After a steering rack conversion the center tie rod is not there. So Glyn is correct.
