Air cleaner rubber seal
Air cleaner rubber seal
As part of my 3.8S engine compartment restoration, I needed a new rubber seal, Part Number C23100, that covers the joint between the air cleaner metal extension and the plastic air intake tube. Most parts suppliers list it as NLA. I found two that supplied it, but while marked with that part number, the seal was too small in ID and too thick (ask me how I know). So, I found a company that would make the seal but I had to purchase 20. Since I will need only one, maybe two, in my lifetime, I would like to sell the rest to try to recoup part of my costs.
The seal is 2 3/4" ID x 2" long x 1/16" thickness, made of black EPDM rubber that will stretch over the plastic tubing and is very resistant to high temperatures.
Cost of a seal is $10 plus postage. Cash, check or Paypal accepted. If interested or if you have questions, please email: awiedie@yahoo.com

Re: Air cleaner rubber seal
Still have a few of these seals left for those of you who missed them the first time around. Send PM
Also have a set of rear seats in red in pretty good condition. They would have to be picked up as they are too big to ship. If interested, send me a PM with an offer.
Also have an assortment of panel switches and other panel electrics that someone might be able to use for a reasonable offer. If interested send a PM and I will take photos.
Sounds like I'm doing a little cleaning up in the shop.

Hi Alan,
Do you still have any of the rubber "connectors" left? If yes, how much to post one to the U.K.?
Regards, Richard Hinds

Re: Air cleaner rubber seal
I know Alan had some made and I bought one from him. Alans were for the joint between the bottom of the air filter and the paper cool air pipe. Fits nicely but after time the rubber is becoming hard due to the heat from the exhaust pipe. The rubber band that goes at the top of the air filter housing between the alloy header and filter housing is also not available. A Friend of mine was throwing out a couple of rubber inner tubes from his Austin Healey sprite which takes a 13 inch wheel. I cut these up into a 4 inch band and it slides quite nicely over the joint. They were not 100% tight but have tightened up with the heat of the engine over the last year or so. They do not move about and look the part.
A 13 inch inner tube on EBay costs £6.90 with free postage. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184440390727 ... SwFGxfWPXV but if you wanted it tighter then a 12 inch tube is also available. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353019818633 ... Swx9peedkV
Although the 13 inch diameter is too large for the bottom joint there is no reason a piece of the same inner tube could not be cut into a square that can be wrapped around the lower joint and glued together using a strong rubber glue. The join can be positioned so it cannot be see.
I would have thought a 10 inch inner tube might suffice for the lower joint and they are only £3.44 https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... =0&_sop=15

Re: Air cleaner rubber seal
Cheaper to buy a 10inch inner tube and make your own Glyn. You could make five or six out of one inner tube.

Re: Air cleaner rubber seal
Not too many cars in the USA with 10 inch wheels, just classic Minis, but maybe a wheelbarrow innertube would work?

Re: Air cleaner rubber seal
That would do John as all you are after is the rubber that you can cut up into a band so not interested in where it comes from.
