Sway bar ?

Post by Bingo »

I a
Ways wondered why the front end of my 64 S type tended to plow through the corners.

Answer: no swaybar

Appreciate your advise on installing and model. Pictures of the front suspension and frame.
Below.

I do not see a pair of tapped holes on the front arms of the subframe where I would expect the fasteners to hold the bar typically are.

Thank you,
Jim

The anti roll bar on an S type runs along the rear of the sub frame between the sump and sub frame, NOT across the front. The chassis brackets have a large packing piece between the brackets and chassis to prevent contact with the sump. That packing piece is important.

The images listed have no relationship to the position of the bar.

The Sway bar or Anti roll bar is as Norman says behind the steering arms but before the sump bowl. Attached are two photos to show it position. Neither were taken to show its position so I have highlighted the Anti roll bar in yellow to show its position from on top and below.

Thank you !

The S Type is an engineering marvel. The swaybar is massive!

The linkage pins seem intact and tight. The rubber bushings are cracked.
Would replacing the the linkage pins & rubber bushings make a difference in handling ?

100%. Any movement in a bush is critical but if you have 6 bushes as on the Sway bar and they are all worn your front end could be moving an inch either way.

Where are the best spots to place jack Stan’s and where do you place the lift so you avoid crushing/bend anything?

Need to relax the front suspension to replace the linkages.

Thanks,
Jim

Any other front end components I should look at replacing to address body roll ?

Thanks,
