Service and user manuals

Post by cass3958 »

I know David will be able to answer this one or he will direct me to the newsletters but can anyone tell me what books/manuals actually came with the "S" model when bought new?
I have a large Blue workshop manual binder which I do not think came with the car when new.
I have an owners operating manual which is green.
I have a spare parts catalogue which is also green.
I have the original periodic service booklet which is also green.

These all state Jaguar "S" model so are originals but was there anything else that would have come with a New car in the glovebox?

Rob ~ Let David give it to you but it varied by country. I know SA etc.

Large service Manual & matching Parts manual were purchase items

In tan plastic wallet with maroon stud came.

1) Green Operating, Maintenance & Service Handbook.
2) Fold out Service Chart.
3) Overseas Distributors & Dealers Manual
4) Periodic Maintenance Vouchers
5) US cars came with a Ownership Registration & Warranty Certificate/bifold.

A US Home Return Plan also existed in the US for people collecting cars at factory, driving them & then shipping home.

I have the fold out chart and the plastic wallet so it appears I have everything I need. My plastic wallet has seen better days but at least it is intact enough to hold the items securely.
Thanks Glyn.

The Owner's docs do vary by country and by year.
There is much listed and described in Newsletters in the archives. See particularly:
Topic Volume Number
Owner’s Documents 1 7
Owner’s Documents - 2 1 8
Owner's Documents - 3 1 10
Owner's Documents - 4 1 11
Owner's Documents - 5 1 12
Owner's Documents - 6 2 1
Owner’s Manual – E/127/1 2 5
Owner’s Manuals 1 4
Owner’s Manuals, Foreign 3 11
Service Manual - E/133/2, 2nd Ed. 2 6
Service Manual – E/133/3, 3rd Ed. 2 12
Service Manual, E/133/x 6 2E
Maintenance & Lubrication Chart 1 5
Maintenance Charts - Jaguar,
Castrol, BP, Shell, Esso 5 11E
There were two issues of Pub. J.35, Spare Parts Catalogue for Jaguar 'S' type. The first was published August 1964, so covers the 'S'-type as it was first produced and is 395 pages. The second publication was November 1970 and, updated to include all production changes is 516 pages.

Hi Rob.

This is the correct wallet with maroon stud.

Barratts had a replica made with the wrong colour stud ~ brown. I got one of these but can tell you that no one at Barratt's knows where they are or if any remain. Thomas Rochelle ~ who has moved up the line came upon my one by accident over a year after I'd been told they could not supply.

Different Green Operating, Maintenance & Service Handbooks existed from early cars with Moss box & newer Jaguar Sync 4 gearbox as change pattern was different for Reverse gear ~ Moss left & up. Jaguar left & down.

My plastic wallet is the original, although damaged and the previous owner wrote the registration number on the front in marker pen but my Jaguar badge is on the clear part of the wallet not the flap. I do have the original maroon popper button.

Interestingly most wallets with the centre tab seem to have gone to E Types. Most S Types have the flap. There might also be a time of build element in there. Maybe David knows.

Maroon pop stud means it's the real deal.
