Welcome to the forum.
Are you referring to part number C23605/2 LOWER STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. This is the part that runs from the bottom of the steering column as it passes through the firewall in the engine bay to the top of steering box and has the U/J on the bottom?
Once we have established the part someone might be able to help or at least offer a source where it can be obtained.

Re: lower column for 1965 S-type
That is a Mk2 lower column. The S Type uses a lower column as I have illustrated. It is possible that a few very early S Types had the lower column with the rubber donut at changeover but not in 1965 as I understand it.

I have an upper column but not a lower. I have a contact who might have one but I am unable to speak to him at this moment but as soon as I can I will confirm if he has one available or not. At this time I will find out the price for you.
There is one for sale on EBay.

Yes ~ that Ebay item is correct for a 65 S Type & newer Mk2's.
The CV joint under the boot might need rebuilding. Barratts sell the replacement nylon rollers, boots etc. They also sell the lower UJ.

Re: lower column for 1965 S-type
Just question: is the lower column the same for power steering cars and manual steering cars?

Re: lower column for 1965 S-type
No it is not John. There are three lower columns. The one we are discussing which is for the Non PAS either left or right hand drive and then there are two for the PAS cars one for right hand drive and one for left hand drive. Not sure what the difference is for the later two, perhaps the way the bolt goes in to the lower section and which side has the thread for the bolt I am thinking. Not clear on the diagrams.
Also it does not stipulate which PAS system is on the car either the Burman on early cars up to 1967 or Adwest Marles Variamatic on the last years of production. Perhaps the head of the PAS system is in the same place so there is no need for a seperate part.
