Fitting Rubber in Rear Ventilator

What is the correct way to install the rubber in the rear ventilator? #37 fitting in #30 in the attached photo. Hope you have photos. Much thanks,

This is quite an easy rubber seal to fit as long as you have the correct profile rubber. Four years ago I fitted new rubbers and was never happy with the fit. The widows would not close fully leaving small gaps that allowed water in and wind noise when driving. The seals I got supplied by Wilkinsons were on the heavy side. They stopped the window closing correctly as the large rubber seal was pushing against the window frame close to the hinge stopping the frame furthest from the hinge to sit tight against the seal. The new seals again supplied by Wilkinsons were a small profile and fitted a lot better.

Sorry there are no photos of the rubber being pushed in to place.
The seal can be fitted with the window glass in place but better if removed. Four screws hold the hinge chrome in place but be careful when removing the hinge plate as this is all that is holding the glass in place. One screw on top of the catch slider and the glass comes out. The new seal should be cut roughly to length. I soaked the seal in boiling water to make it supple and then using a flat bladed screwdriver and a liberal dash of silicone grease I gently pushed the seal into the groove working my way around the window frame. The seal needs to be left for a couple of hours to shrink in to place as if you cut it off too early you will have a gap at one end. Try and squaash the seal together getting as much in the groove as you can before cutting the end off. Once the seal is in refit the window frame.
My right hand frame was slightly bent and so the flat glass did not fit the frame and left a gap. I had to resort to a rather brutish way of getting the frame straight by using a pick axe handle in the frame as a lever to bent it straight. I got the frame straight and the window and door both seal correctly now. Sorry for the angle these photos have come out as. They are correct on my computer.

Rob, I notice you have 2 heated rear window switches mounted. What do you use the 2nd one for?

Its a manual Choke switch Glyn.

I had some escutcheons made up in the same style as the rear window escutcheon and then wired this switch up to be able to cut the earth on the Otter switch. Never had to use it as my otter switch works fine but it is there in case and looks good.

I still have some escutcheons with "CHOKE" on should you want one. All you need is an old rear heated window switch.

As an old fashion engineer Nigel I do like to use the traditional methods used in the factories in the 1960s.

Orlando if you can find an old rear window switch I can supply the escutcheon for you should you wish to copy it.

Would the rubber go into the chrome (outlined in yellow) as shown in the photo and which side should the rubber lip be facing? If not correct, does the glass go in to one of the little slots and if so, which one? My rubber looks like the top photo.

Joe the "I" section at the bottom which you have marked in yellow goes in to the chrome and the "L" leg goes against the chrome on the inside of the window so the glass in its chrome sits against this as you close the window. It is pretty self explanatory when you offer it up. If you put it in the wrong way you cannot close the window!
The "L" on my first seal was way to thick and the window would not pull up to it and close properly.
