My car was originally non-PAS and had the holes present with what look like the remains of rubber bungs.

Seems most likely to have been an error at time of manufacture.

Definitely an odd one!

Yes, I have pulled the cable out from the speedo end, greased it and successfully reinstalled it. Obviously the trickiest bit is getting it back in the speedo drive on the gearbox. You just have to be careful with it and gently twist it until it slides in.

Mine is an automatic, though.

Well done, Rob! That's quite an achievement. Saturday was a truly awful day.

I was part of an S-type/420/Mk2 line-up at British Motor Museum yesterday. Glorious blue sky for that!

I thought I'd update you all on my oil pressure experiences in 2021. Following my previous post bemoaning low oil pressure when using Millers 10W40, in May 2021, I changed the oil and filter for Mobil 1 10W60 fully synthetic. But, on my first outing, oil pressure on the gauge again failed to reach 4...
