Re: Broke dip stick.

Thank you, thank you. Would dropping the oil pan and letting the remaining part fall out or pulled out ? SNG Barratt has dip a stix for a E type 3.8 for $110. Looks a lot like ours. https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/US/parts/b02f80aa-1b12-4140-8a01-8bd9c7b406d3 Two things. First the broken off p...

Re: Broke dip stick.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years a go and I wrote about it on the forum but we have upgraded our forum since then and the item is no longer available to view. Basically I had to remove the dip stick tube from the engine block. The part of the dip stick that broke was too big to fall throu...

Re: Adwest Marles power steering box.

It is our pleasure to impart the knowledge that we have learnt through trial and error in the era before the internet forums. If I am working on the family Jaguar XF I generally look on YouTube for a video showing me what to do before I start. A common brake upgrade is to fit the twin pot callipers ...

Re: Engine out

Ideally out the bottom would have been my choice but as you said John you need a suitable car hoist possibly a two poster to be able to lower the car on to its wheels to get the subframe out of the way then lower it again so the engine sits on a platform with wheels before lifting the whole car body...

Re: Engine out

The engine can be taken out from above or below. Above needs a strong engine hoist and lots of head room. Taken out below requires a hoist lift to lift the car body off the engine but you have to drop the front subframe. The manual suggests out the top but when they were built the engines were on a ...

I think that is just the test gauge and the one he is using is the one in the box which goes to 60 psi.

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge, inaccurate

Very interesting as my gauge is up and down depending on which way the wind is blowing. Not sure if I would fit one but it might be nice to buy one just to compare the PSI between the two. Do you have a link or name of the place from where you bought the gauge please.

Re: Timing chain

Good to hear. Always worrying when you think something is wrong and cant quite get it right. Worse when you know something is wrong and can't find the problem.

Re: Timing chain

When you are referring to the noisy inlet valve on #1 is that Jaguar #1 at the back of the engine or Haynes manual #1 which they claim is at the front. If it is the latter mighten the loose chain be the reason for your noise. A loose chain might be because it has stretched and the tensioners can no ...

Re: Timing chain

My only advice is check and check again then before you start her up rotate the engine by hand to make sure there is no interference between the valves and the piston crowns. Do this for three or four revolutions of the engine then check the alignment of the cams again with the alignment tool. When ...
