Re: Head to Head (Cylinder)

Hi Dennis, before pulling the head off try a compression test to see what the state of the engine is in, if you're getting smoke on on acceleration after over run then it indicates worn valve guides or at the best case the valve seals have hardened and loose. As Rob says excessive crankcase smoke/fu...

Re: hazard warning light

If you want to fit a hazard warning system have a look at Bet5er Lighting and this web page https://www.bettercarlighting.co.uk/ind ... ductId=573
I have used them for all my LED bulb replacements and for a hazard circuit.

Re: question about little pipe connections fuel tank

I've always taken it that the pipe 7 is an early form of fuel vapour emissions control. Vapour from the tank travels up pipe 7 that is tucked up in the B pillar where it condenses and any petrol is returned to the tank via the filler neck and "cleaned" vapour exits via the rear steel pipe ...

Re: Engine Oil

Rob, i don't think anything untoward was involved in the purchase of the pump as I didn't buy any pipes from them, I found some in the piles of Jag parts I used to have back in then as I had a few engines in bits - various Xj6, Mk2 and S Type. My memory is hopeless regarding the parts used at the ti...

Re: Ignition

Haven't used one myself but sounds similar to a 123 distributor used by a few members here. Looking at the Moss website it only lists distributors for Mk2's so it might be worth checking the advance curves of this distributor will work with the S Type engine as i don't have any info for Mk2's regard...

Re: Engine Oil

I can't remember the exact details but he said it had been machined to much finer tolerances than a standard pump, one thing I can remember is it cost three time the price of a standard pump. They were the go to pumps of the day for the Jaguar club racers along with the oil cooler and the modified f...

Re: Engine Oil

I've been back through the photos i have of the engine build and unfortunately I didn't take many, probably due to pre digital camera era as it was 1998 - I did say it was a while back and haven't got any shots of the crank etc. You are right about the block and pipe and the number of bolts, it defi...

Re: Engine Oil

It was a long time back when I did the job but I remember the new pipe I had to source was the pump to block plus brackets. My car might be different to to later cars as it was one of the first 500 built and designs might have changed.

Re: Engine Oil

That's correct regarding the feed pipes, the 4.2 pump has larger diameter items. When I fitted the modified XJ pump on my car that was supplied by Rob Beere Racing http://www.rob-beere-racing.co.uk/ I had to source XJ pipes as Beere didn't supply any back then. I don't know about the pump Rob mentio...

Re: Engine Oil

Yes, capillary feed. Spools up just as quick as an electrical guage. I'll just add the engine has a high output racing pump fitted and oil pressure runs at about 50lbs hot.
