Re: Can't find TDC marks

Hi Rob, No need to apologies. I always appreciate your quick response. B.T.W. I found the root cause of the confusion. The distributor itself is ok. But when I took that out of the block I saw that the drive shaft position is opposite compared with the manual. See attached pictures. That's why it se...

Re: Can't find TDC marks

Hi Rob, Glyn, Thanks for the detailed explanation. I will check it again. The reason why I'm confused about it is that the Haynes workshop manual of my E-type discribed the opposite. I attached the Cylinder_numbers, firing order and Valve_timing part in that manual. There you can read that the No. 6...

Re: Can't find TDC marks

Hi Rob,

Yes I know that cylinder 1 is the one at the back. This is on TDC according the mark on the pulley (and the check you mentioned with the screwdriver)
In this position the rotor of the distributer should pointed cylinder 6 according to me.
Is that right?

Regards,

Harrie

Re: Can't find TDC marks

Hi, Probably a stupid question. But I'm a bit confused. When I set cylinder 1 in TDC according the timing mark on the front pulley. It seems that cylinder 6 is on the highest position as well. To which cylinder should the rotor of the distributor point in this case? When I look at the distributer ca...

Re: camshaft bearings

Today I looked again to the camshaft bearing shells and doubt about the condition. Because I see some discoloration although not to copper but another colour (see picture 6 and 7). - Is it wise to replace these bearing shells anyway? - Does it have an impact on the already measured valve clearence? ...

Re: camshaft bearings

Thanks all for the response. I appreciate that a lot.
I will leave the bearings as is and I'm aware that bearing caps have to place back in the exact position.

camshaft bearings

Hi, After the headgasket change last year I heard a loud noisy tapping sound. This week I decided to measure the valve clearance. I noticed that they are to high. So I will adjust these with the correct shims. But I have 2 questions about the camshaft bearings. - I took some pictures and I'm wonderi...

Re: Can't find TDC marks

Hi Glyn,

Repeated on the front Crankshaft damper if that helps.

Do you have a picture or photo were I have to look?

Thanks,

Harrie
