The Problem located and fixed, it was found that there was a leak from the thermostat housing, i'm not sure why the water level in the rad never dropped but she is now dry as a bone.

Water leak
The car has not moved for a while, and yesterday Most peculiar I found a water leak that looks quite bad, I checked the top of the radiator and it still showed as being full, so how can I loose water without the rad going down?.

yes my car has been converted, long before I bought the car . Again with regard to studs rather than bolt bolts I don't know. If they were always bolted I guess that it has been changed possibly when the manual choke was fitted.

thank you for the extra info , because of the paint on the slam panel and my sitting height I have never seen it before. I know its a bit naughty but I have had some labels missing so I found them on line for example the power steering label on the oil reservoir copied and printed , cut out and glue...
