Re: retractable belts for front seats
Good spot with the thicker material used in the last photos. This was because when I had made the plates which was difficult because the thickness of the steel and trying to bend it in a vice, I found the flat section that the inertia reel was to sit on was too wide, wider than the sill it was sat o...

Re: Vibration
Difficult to suggest anything without a lot more information but as Norman has said if the prop shaft has been removed I would start there. When removing a prop shaft I always mark the orientation between the shaft and the diff so it goes back the way it came out, same at the gearbox end. Make sure ...

Re: retractable belts for front seats
Just remember that the bottom of the "B" pillar is not designed or strong enough by itself to hold the seat belt. The eye bolt on the floor is the main point of security and the bolt I fitted at the top of the bracket which goes into the bottom of the "B" pillar is just to hold t...

Re: retractable belts for front seats
We have covered this before but I cannot find the thread in the search box. When I first fitted my inertia reels in the front I noted there was not enough room for the inertia reel block to sit between the side of the seat and the "B" pillar so I mounted it on the floor just behind the sea...

Re: Almost a unique collision
I drive my car with awareness and always leave a large gap between my self the the car in front. Problem is other drivers take this as an invitation to pull out of a side road and jump into this gap. Now my S Type has good brakes but I also drive my friends 1953 Alvis TA21 which does not have the be...

Re: Inboard Rear Calipers
Is there any difference between a series one and any other XJ6 set up. Do the XJS callipers fit and can you fit vented discs with the series one or do they have to remain standard.

Re: Marles varamatic steering box
My car being a 1967 has the BW35 gearbox also has an oil cooler for that which is in the base of the radiator. Seems a bit of an over kill but as you say possibly for hotter climates than ours.

Re: Marles varamatic steering box
Nice to hear it is coming along. The PAS fluid cooler is pretty basic on the S Type. I have attached a photo of mine. I will have to check tomorrow where the pipes run from and to but I think it runs from the steering box through the cooler then in to the reservoir on a return. The cooler is just a ...

Re: Inboard Rear Calipers
Dennis I have never done this myself but something I would consider if it was possible. The IRS system on the back of the S Type should be compatible with the IRS system in the back of the 420 and XJ6 both of which I believe have better brakes than the S Type so I have been told. What is better thou...
