Re: Free for collection

Please let me know if there is anything of interest that you’d like close up photos. Can I say this will be for collection only and I really would recommend coming to see them in Sheffield UK unless you’re in South Africa or the USA in which case………..I wouldn’t bother!!

Free for collection - Items now gone.

Hi folks, over the years I have accumulated bits and pieces for S-Types and 420s that might one day be useful! I’ve just found some old 420 interior trim items that are in poor condition but might be recoverable. The colour is tan with carpets more toward the cinnamon shade. This is all original Jag...

Re: 68 S-Type Bonnet

Yes, distortion is always a problem and in truth this bonnet was already distorted as a result of the corrosion. The chap doing the work explained that the welding puts the strength back into the panel at which point he can address the shaping. It’s the Jaguar International Spares Day at Stoneleigh ...

Re: 68 S-Type Bonnet

Hi folks, Just got the “new” bonnet back from the blasters and as you will see……..it needs a bit of work! This sort of welding Is well beyond my basic level but happily the chap looking after it is very capable so it can be recovered. I kept looking for a better example but nothing turned up. Just l...

Re: Dodgy Tools

No that is a good question. The vernier comes with a distance piece set at 1 inch so you can regularly check it is correct. I also checked the 0.025 feeler gauge which happily is actually 0.025 according to the vernier.

Good point though when checking measuring tools.

Dodgy Tools

Whilst I’m sure many readers will have experience of poor quality parts I’ve just resolved a problem with setting my plugs and for the most unexpected of reasons. The car is modified and runs a 123 tune+ distributor (very good) and I have found a plug gap of 30 thou works well. Having replaced and s...

Re: 68 S-Type Bonnet

Hello Cass3958, Yes that is a good point and especially on the doors too. It is easy to see the curve going top to bottom but not so obvious going from side to side. Like you, only the bottoms are reskinned on mine but it has still needed a filler skim to get the shape right. CFB447F2-7FAA-4271-A3F1...

Re: 68 S-Type Bonnet; Update

Hello Everyone. I’m pleased to say I have found a correct bonnet. It is not in the best condition but I think with a little welding work it can be made to fit. The problem is at the windscreen end of the bonnet which appears to be too wide for the bonnet aperture. Looking at it closely I think rust ...
