I'm sure long ago in my 59 year ownership, the brass gauze screens attached to the fuel tank drain plugs partially perished. Never seemed to have any effect on the car's operation or any excess debris in the glass bowl "filter" in the engine bay. But still I thought I'd have a go at repairing these plugs since replacements run about $80 each. I bought a section of brass gauze screening on the internet (many gradations are available) and cut it a piece to size, wrapped it around the remaining factory gauze and soldered it onto place. Soldering skills not pretty but seems to hold it in place OK. I have considerable left over screening so if anyone wants a piece or two send me a PM with your mailing address. USA only please. The process was I ran one tank down to near empty and simply unscrewed the plug for repair. Not more than a couple of cups of fuel drained out in this process. The rubber sealing ring was undamaged and reused with no leaks.
