I found mine as new old stock on Ebay. Someone who once had a Mk2, bought this from Martin Robey 10 years or so ago for £55 and never fitted it. Just wanted his money back but the price at Martin Robey has now nearly doubled so I think I got a bargain. £99.56 at Martin Robey including the VAT.

As for a second hand one they do tend to be right in the line of all the road detritus so I would be surprised if you found a decent secondhand one.

Does anyone in the U.K. have one they're prepared to sell ? I'm not that fussed that I'd buy a new one, but if one available at a suitable price, I'd be interested.

Thanks for looking, Richard

Nice! In my ignorance, I painted mine satin black.

What are those tyres you have on there, Glyn?

It does finish things off rather nicely. (sorry BRG makes it difficult to see)

Waxoyl or Tectyl is a good plan. My one has Tectyl sprayed everywhere it can't be seen. My car has Tectyl in every closed space even if I've had to Drill for access & insert a plastic plug afterwards, We even made up a retractable spay head that could be withdrawn down the skirts from the plugged hole in the rear wheel arch. Doors, Bootlid, Bonnet etc. etc. all done. And every trim attachment point. This car is not going to rust.

I think all S Types should be fitted with the Valance but it is such a flimsy piece of thin mild steel held on with 7 self tappers that I am not surprised that the original piece on my car had disappeared.

It is only a cosmetic cover piece and I can see previous owners of our cars damaging it, ripping it off or it rusting out and not being replaced. Very easy to fit. Mine cost half of the cost of a new one from SNG otherwise I doubt if I would have bothered as it is not structural nor protective of a vital part or area.
Purely cosmetic and a collector of dirt and detritus. No wonder that they rusted out but with our cars now being better maintained and cleaned it should last longer. My next job is to spray the inside that cannot be seen with Waxoyl to protect it.

No worries at all. Most people spell my name the wrong way. It is the Welsh way ~ Glyn ~ single "n" and I don't have an ounce of Welsh blood in me. My mother just liked it. My family originates from Canada & Surrey. All UK ultimately.

Your car should have a valance.

Glyn,

My apologies for mis-spelling your name! It's still quite early in the morning here.

Cass,

Thank you for your photos regarding the front valance. Until I saw your pictures, I had not properly understood what the valance looked like, or where it went. As Glenn points out, your colour enhances the clarity of what goes where. My 1965 version does not have a front valance, and I'm not sure if it ever had one.
