Guys,
All of this is covered in "Originality: Tool Container and Tools (1963-1968)", 6 pages including photos, descriptions of each tool, which tools were changed and parts numbers and dates of changes in Newsletter Vol. 13, No. 7.
Cheers
David

That tool box is not the original one for the S Type. I think that might be for a later XJ6. Still fits in the spare wheel but not the right one. The tools you have are the same as the S Type but the box is all wrong.

The bits you are missing that I can see are;
The Valve timing gauge,
Spark plug,
Tyre pressure gauge,
Box spanner and tommy bar,
The yellow tin with the brake bleed tube inside,
The Plastic handled double ended screw driver,
The "L" shaped screw driver,
The feeler gauges.
A couple of spanners.

Your box does not have any spaces for some of the items.
Attached is a photo of my tool box with all the tools laid out for you to see and a copy of the parts manual with the tool box. My car being a 1967 build has the plastic tool box.

My toolkit is quite different - it is semi circular. It's also missing quite a few items, but that is waaaay down my list of priorities at present.

No question is foolish until you know the answer.

The tool kit fits in the boot under the boot tray inside the spare wheel. The box is shaped to fit inside a standard 15 inch rim. The spare wheel is sat in the spare wheel well with the rear of the wheel facing up allowing the tool box to sit flush with the tyre surface.

This the S Type tool box in situ. You will notice that the tool box is identical to the Mk2s tool box as are the contents except that there is an empty space in the S Type box to the left of the grease gun where the ratchet spanner would be on the Mk2 for winding the jack up and down. The S Type had a jack with a handle as in the photo so did not need the ratchet spanner. The S Type tool boxes were marked with a large letter "S" on the black top written in a yellow crayon so they could be distinguished from the Mk2 tool box when on the factory floor. The tool box started out as wood and metal but around 1967 they changed to the black plastic box.

A foolish question I know, but where is the tool kit stored ?

Thank you,
Jim

Tom, my tool kit had the original label with red text but it had become separated from the gun, so I saved it with other labels.

While trying to gather tools for our Jaguar tool kit (still ongoing) My son Jeff and I decided to try and duplicate the Tecalemit Grease Gun Instruction Sheet that was originally secured to the grease gun in the tool kit. You can buy them on eBay I have since discovered, but I think ours looks a little more authentic (primarily because of the way the 1/4 fraction is displayed at the end of the first line of the instructions). We thought if anyone on the Forum would like a copy of the sheet we could post it here in PDF form for download. We recommend using and inkjet printer for best results. We created the file in both red and blue. I'm only aware that the Jaguar tool kits had the red instructions, but blue was apparently used for some applications. Perhaps someone has more information on this.

The PDF docs are stored in the S-Type Maintenance documents section above.
